How do you know how much physical evidence they collected? The investigation has not been made public yet. All that has been leaked is 8 pages of the arrest report. Most investigations like this run several hundred pages.

I will admit that the rules need to be changed for evidence collection, even in cases where the police are certain that it's a case of self defense.
