My Dad married himself a Coon Ass woman. That was in DeRidder, Louisiana. Not frippin' Florida. There's a difference difference between trying to beat a Coon Ass, or beating someone's coon ass...

"Coonass" (no space, btw) isn't a reference to a black person, it's a reference to a Cajun. "Coon" is a derogatory reference to a black person. There's no overlap there.

I was just outside of Baton Rouge, visiting with some relatives, when they decided it was time we all went out to dinner. On the way to the restaurant, one of the cousins mentions the restaurant is run by "a bunch of coonasses". First time I had heard the expression. I said "Spell that.". He says "Spelled just like it sounds, COON... ASS, you know, Cajun."

At the restaurant, one of the uncles pretends to be from out of town. He asks the waitress "Hey, honey... I hear you got some people around here called Coonasses... Are you a Coonass?" The young girl that was the waitress didn't hesitate a second before saying "You're darn right I'm a Coonass!" It was a pretty fun evening.
