The Jay Cutler one makes me laugh for some reason. Anyway, I made new surveys for this year. Links in profile. And there are no naked pictures of Tony Romo and trust me I've looked. More than once.

LucklessWonder: As a Caps fan, I would have to EMBRACE THE HATE if you go full Penguins. Also, I like Tomlin for the W&M connection (my step-daughter wants to go once she's done in high school)

Well, geographically I should be a Caps (& Redskins) fan, so I guess I can't really root against them, lol. I would say I DO NOT WANT Fark hatred, but as a Steelers fan, well... :)

Best of luck to your step-daughter! :) I loved my four years at W&M - shoot, pretty much the only thing I don't miss is the humidity, which is brutal in the summer. :-/ (If she gets in, I can give you some inside info on which dorms are air-conditioned, because the one I lived in freshman year was not, and even though my roommate and I had four fans running day and night it was still pretty bad.)

LucklessWonder: Oooh, Good for you!! Did you not realize that they hadn't had the draft yet or what?

I was under the impression ESPN would have the sense, if they're actually spending the time to do a power ranking list at this juncture, to at least project some draft selections/further roster moves by teams for giggles and interest's sake in evaluating their power rankings. Not doing so, however, and knowing full well every roster is going to go through close to 20% turnover (at least) from now until season opener is rather useless and lazy.

Do I still get a cookie from you?

San Francisco missed its chance. The NFC West will be better, it won't be playing soft competition in the other divisions by virtue of taking the NFC West the previous year. Alex Smith had a once in a medicore QB's lifetime of a season; that too will end. I'm seeing a drop to 10 or 11 wins.

2012-03-27 11:47:18 AM
The Texans are a bit too high. We lost too many starters. And next year is worse cause Cushing and Schaub's contracts will run out. I hope they have a plan in the draft.

Can't argue with that much being a Packers fan and all.

I do think philly is gonna be scary this year though...they starting turning it around a bit late last year, and a full offseason is going to make them dangerous. Just not sure why they're so hell bent on getting rid of Asante Samuel...dude has always been a good cover guy wherever he's been.

grinding_journalist: That was dumber than usual. The highlights:

The Vikings officially are in rebuilding mode.

So this past season they were "unofficially" in rebuilding mode?

Actually, yeah. 2010 was the collapse, and 2011 was the semi-rebuilding mode. This year, there are no expectations other than trying to start putting a good team back together.

My opinion? Shut Peterson down for the season, letting the ACL recover completely and reducing long-term wear and tear. Trade Jared Allan - love him but his stock could not be higher and the Vikes aren't winning this year (or next probably) anyway.

Aaron Ross isn't a particularly good corner and he would have been no higher than the nickel this year, or more likely the dime (Webster, Thomas, Amukamara, and then Ross' replacement).

Three teams in the top ten? I love being a fan of a team in the NFC North. It's great that Detroit has turned their shiat around. I still don't think they're better than the Bears, but I'm extremely biased. I can't wait for football to start.

FOOTBALL!

Yes, I'm well aware MLB hasn't even started yet. I just don't see a lot to be excited about with my choice MLB team. I'd love to be surprised, Sox.

2012-03-27 12:15:21 PM
My thoughts on the Ravens, the only team I've been really closely following this offseason:

Baltimore has improved their special teams coverage unit through free agency and re-signed underrated starting linebacker Jameel McClain along with starting center Matthuselah Birk. Meanwhile, they lost their starting left guard (Ben Grubbs), starting defensive tackle (Cory Redding), starting outside linebacker (the highly underrated Jarret Johnson), and a solid backup running back in Ricky Williams; only in Redding's case do they have a player on the roster ready to step in and fill the void. There are also still no long-term contracts with Ray Rice, Joe Flacco, or Lardarius Webb--none are going anywhere, but the first two in particular would likely free up some much-needed cap room.

In terms of offseason needs, they have actually lost ground on the offensive line and linebacking corps, they have not been able to pick up a kick returner, they've done nothing at all at wide receiver, and they've lost much-needed depth at safety with the departures of Haruki Nakamura (Panthers) and Tom Zbikowski (Colts). Admittedly this is largely due to having very little cap space left over, but that again goes back to the failure to lock up Rice & co.

My initial premise was that they shouldn't be ranked so high, but looking at the other teams around them I also don't see anyone else who should clearly be ahead of them (who aren't already). So maybe #5 is accurate for now.

Interesting how they're predicting the AFC West:

Oakland: I've pretty much succumbed to the idea that this is a rebuilding year. If we get 8 wins again, I'll be happy. So Oakland being kinda low doesn't bother me.....however.....

Chiefs: Are NINE spots higher than the Raiders? Is there really cause to be the much more optimistic in KC? Granted, they suffered a lot of key injuries last year. But fact of the matter is they are still being coached by Romeo Crennel. Speaking of coaches holding teams down....

Chargers; I think this is closest to the most accurate on the list. I think SD is going to get 8 or 9 wins again, but they'll ultimately flounder as the Norving as been completed throughout the team.

Denver: God I hope this isn't accurate. It sucks I have to hate Peyton Manning now.

I don't think I would put Colts at dead last - the defense is going to be a lot better next year and they'll actually have a quarterback. Also, the Giants are a too damn high. They peaked at the right time but they're not going to be the best team in the league week one. That's still the hated Green Bay Packers; they were the best last year and just fell apart in one game in the playoffs, just like my Colts did for years and years.

You realize then that the only time the place won't resemble Jacksonville is when the Packers come to town? Allen needs someone to take the heat off of him and AP (while he won't be back to All-Pro in '12) is doing well in rehab thus far. Will they stink in 2012? Oh god yes, but if they take Kalil and get a respectable secondary they could at least hope the Lions screw it up to get to second.

They had cap space and used it to varying degrees of effectiveness. That and everyone seems to think Romeo's rehabed from his Cleveland days so the freshest thing in the writer's memories? Beating Green Bay. They seem to forget he's tried to start another QB controversy (the very thing that killed him in Cleveland) and that they could use better DL. That said, they're a fine long shot for the SB; as much as it breaks my Silver & Black heart.

Jason Hanson has been the best player on the team since Barry Sanders said fark this. Sure, he has a damn good leg, but you can't exactly build a team around it. They haven't won their division in 20 years. Matt Millen.
