If you couldn't avoid the Tebow frenzy while he played in the Center of the Earth Metropolis that is Denver, wait till the end of the season with him in New York. They'll interupt muzak in elevators to inundate us with the most current temperature of a Tebow fart in the locker room. Saturation from this all season is going to blow.

So how long until he is found 'praying' with some high priced ho?

Fingers crossed that the Jets start out like 0-4 and Sanchise gets benched for Tebow. The resulting Tebowmaniasanity will be epic.

Tebow didn't choose anything.

2012-03-27 08:41:39 AM
I think he made a mistake. It's the NFL. Even the small teams are national news, and Tebow going "home" to quite literally save a franchise from extinction would be a much bigger story in the long term than endless back pages like "TEBLOWS" and "DIRTY SANCHEZ SEZ TEBONED HIM" and coming into the locker room to find Rex Ryan shuddering with ecstasy while rubbing Tebow's Jesus Sandals all over his body.

Dear New York,

Big fan here of your city. Please chew Tebow up and spit him out, and if you want, when he is passed out, draw penises on his face in permanent marker.

Love,

I think he really just wanted to be closer to Skip Bayless. The thought of them walking around Central Park, holding hands, makes me smile.

The Broncos basically offered him a choice - Jacksonville or NY. He chose NY.

The Jets will still suck. They'll just be on one knee instead of both of them this time around.

Mr. Coffee Nerves: I think he made a mistake.

I forget where I heard/read it (don't feel like looking), but Jax was supposedly going to put him 3rd string and make him play special teams. Not an ideal choice, if true.

Yeah I'm sure the Broncos would have taken a lower round pick from the Jags if Tebow had wanted it that way. Give me a break.

Didn't the Jets come with money as well? That might have balanced out the difference on the pick somewhat.

Also, he is perpetually chapped.

If I properly understand what happened, the Broncos forced the Jets to pay them part of Tebow's salary they had already given him to remove their future liability for him when he retires. I'm not exactly sure what on earth all of that was about. In any case, the Broncos were willing to kill the trade over it which is another sign that Tebow had no say in what was going on.

I don't think the egos of Christie and Tebow can be in the same state at the same time. There's a law or something.

The quarterback sits at No. 4 among all celebrities in DBI's Endorsement scale, trailing only Oprah Winfrey, Adele and Kate Middleton. (Will Smith, Bill Gates, Hank Aaron, Tom Hanks and Jack Nicklaus follow Tebow in the Top 10 of Endorsement). He has also soared into the Top 10 in the Influence category -- up from No. 40 in December -- which places him alongside Adele, Justin Bieber, Johnny Depp and Brad Pitt. Regarding the Trendsetter attribute, Tebow has risen to No. 6, which is on par with Katy Perry, Anne Hathaway, Beyoncé, Justin Timberlake and Will Smith. His No. 13 ranking in Trust puts him in the same neighborhood as Warren Buffett, the late John Wooden, Bill Cosby, Jerry Rice and Dr. Oz.

Is there another player in sports history who has accomplished as little yet received this level of praise?

2012-03-27 10:17:40 AM
look at it this way..

the Redskins just mortgaged their entire immediate future to draft one QB..

Tebow isn't even worth a 3rd rounder to 31 teams in the league.

NOBODY OFFAHD A THREE!

2012-03-27 10:25:28 AM
Go to the Jags, get starting job week 3, flame out with inferior team, be out of the league and the public eye (outside of Florida) in 2 years from now

OR

Go to the Jets, get in on wildcat plays, get the fans to call for you to start with every Sanchize incompletion, stay as the #2 for 2ish years, start end of year 2 or beginning of year 3, do terrible for a mediocre team, be out of the league in 5 years from now, and still squarely in the public eye.

Gee, which would be better?

Tebow calls them Jag-wires.

This morning the headline in my newspaper was something involving the words "TebowTime II," and I considered making up a real-time drinking game where I'd take a shot every time I saw/heard/read Tebow's name (two shots if it was a stupid play on words or gimmicky phrase). Then I realized I actually kind of like my liver, and would prefer if it continued to work for longer than the next five minutes, so I decided against doing that.

/cool dumb story sis

I listened very carefully to the news conference and to everything else. Tebow wasn't offered any kind of choice. If you believe Elway in this then you also believed it when he said Tebow was the Bronco QB going into the next season and that he would personally help train Tebow up to become a 'better' QB. Yes indeed, much like he did to his first wife - Elway lied, Tebow wasn't given a choice. Tebow said it was Denver's Call.

I've never WK'd an athlete before, but this is kinda ignorant.

Dude set records in his conference and sport while pursuing and winning 2 national championships. (He set records in those championship games as well.) He's won NFL games, and won a playoff game. Oh, and he won the Heisman, and finished in the top 3 in votes in 2 consecutive years.

Name all the other quarterbacks in NFL history who have done all four (five?) of these things.

I'll wait.

/seriously, I never do this, but saying Tebow has accomplished "little" is unhinged ignorance.
//starting to like the guy despite not wanting to; he's just unflappable, nice to absolutely everyone, and even his "faith" doesn't bother me anymore

What has he done to deserve THIS degree of mania? I'm not debating his accomplishments as a football player, but he was just traded for low round picks yet had a press conference attended by over 200 people.

2012-03-27 11:30:24 AM
It's a smart choice for Tebow. The New York fans and media are incredibly forgiving and patient with mediocre players, and in no way try to pigeon hole him and tear him apart when he doesn't win.

2012-03-27 11:43:51 AM

grinding_journalist: winning 2 national championships.

Derp. Brain fart, he only won one- calling myself out before someone else does.

Honestly, I think it's part of the self-feeding media cycle. He WAS a big deal at Florida, and in the South college football is bigger than pro. Once he became one of "the greatest" ever to play in the SEC, he started getting a lot of attention. Combine that with "he's a rising star, we need to cover him" and then the inevitable "everyone's talking Tebow so we need to as well", along with the Jesus aspect, it just keeps building on itself.

/yeah I know, the players aren't the same, but the media hype is

Oh believe me, I get that. It's my job to get that, but his play isn't the driving force behind it.

I could be mistaken, but wasn't the Tebow hype machine already at full blast when he walked onto the campus in Gainesville?

This is exactly what I don't get...He's a closeted gay attention whore?

So he's a guy who doesn't get into trouble and does a lot of charity work, but since he's outspokenly Christian, he's a closeted gay attention whore?

OK...go ahead and let us know when you're out of your bunk...

It's not that he's mentioned every day...it's that he's done nothing to deserve the attention (yet).

In every measure of quality for a QB...he is below average..other than wins...which relied heavily on 60 yard field goals and outstanding defensive support.
