I'm surprised the government didn't just kick them to curb.

I'm a little surprised that the Chinese government put up with them. I know this is a private company and all, but someone with enough money to put up a skyscraper can buy a local pol or two.

When they built the Three Gorges Dam they basically just said GTFO to a metric fark ton of people.

2012-03-26 12:00:30 PM
And those skyscrapers will never be occupied. China is building ghost towns for the sake of building. There is no demand.

2012-03-26 12:05:07 PM
This reminds me of when Bill Brasky said let's go to a bar and led us to an empty lot. He sat down right in the middle of it and said "this is the place." We waited there with him for two years, and sure enough, they built a bar on that very spot. We drank there the whole night, and then Brasky burned the place down, just for closure."

Disney? More like Bugs Bunny. (^)

So, does this happen a lot in China? Or is it the same couple/house every time this shows up on Fark?

It's like a savings account. Someday somebody will need it and it will already be built.

As much as I dislike the Daily Fail, their article at least had a better pic:

The version I heard:

"So one night, Brasky and I decided to go out for drinks. We drove around for two hours and couldn't find a bar. So Brasky pulls us into a vacant lot, and we waited there for a year. And sure enough, they built a bar around us. Brasky took one drink, and burned the place to the ground. Over the roar of the flames, I heard him say 'Always leave places the way you found them!'"

If this was Texas, they would have been, and would have been fined in the process.

Two questions: how many more years is this fake news article going to be run every few months. and 2) how many times are the mods here going to green-light it?

Not if they build them with substandard building codes (likely) they may be ready to fall down by the time they are ready to be used. A lot of towers made in the 80s in the US are being abandoned because of substandard materials.

At least in this one we're treated to the owner of the home creating steps using his nunchucks...Yup, that got greenlit.

Is it true the owners are martial arts experts? I heard that the contractors sent thugs to beat them up and found out the hard way that they did not think their cunning plan the whole way through.

/would make the best kung-fu movie ever

antidisestablishmentarianism: Now Disney can recoup the money lost on John Carter.

Man, i don't know why they lost so much money. John Carter is hands down the best movie out so far this year. Seems like every year the movies that suck the most get the best box office draw and the movies that rock get the worst draw. Two things I think cause this. I am too old and don't understand the shows that the generations behind me like. The second is that the new movies and reality shows are a measure of the stupidity of America. Idiocracy is imminent.

You expect me to believe that 3000-square foot brick and concrete bunker in the middle of the photo is a "house" in which a couple of aging Chinese live by themselves?

There's one town that opted to build a wall to hold back the reservoir, but mostly it was "Your town will be underwater. Now move."

Well, it used to look better until the Chinese Military tried to run them down with tanks....

Turns out that the home-owner is none other than Steven Segal, attempting to retire from a life of navy chefery. They didn't count on the fact that he's...

I suppose that's a good policy for a news site then. Any time anyone in the world is unaware of something that's happened, that thing should be eligible for a reprint.

Well the beauty of putting in a dam is YOU don't have to MAKE them move. The rising water level forces the issue all on its own. Pictures of a holdout sitting on a roof don't look so heroic, you look like an idiot out of one of the forgettable, unfunny Monty Python skits.
