$9.50? Bastards charged me $10.

(It was actually a rather enjoyable 1980's sword and sorcery flick, as long as you pretended it had no relation to REH or his creations)

Saw Conan last night via Netflix so getting a kick...

It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I just turned off my mind and enjoyed the action. The female lead was easy on the eyes.

If convicted, Cuccia faces up to 226 years in prison and Collins faces up to 200 years in federal prison.

Let this be a lesson to us all: if you're going to commit a crime DON'T defraud a major corporation; stick to something socially acceptable that'll only get you 15-20 like raping a kid.

Like Lionsgate never pracitced Hollywood Accounting.....

I watched the original Conan not too long ago and I loved it. I loved the score and JEJ as Thulsa Doom.

Arnold provided comic relief for me as he does in almost all his movies.

The Remake Conan was more of a Conan movie than the 80s original. The new one used, what's it called, The Source Material.

Conan killed a lot of people, there was evil people doing scorcery, and he got to bang the damsel in distress. That was pretty much what I remember from the Conan stories.

Jason Momoa was a better Conan than Ahnuld was. Stephen Lang was good, but he needed a deeper, James Earl Jones-y voice. The music stunk compared to the 82 version. And while the story/plot/whatever were fine (and closer to the Howard stories/comics), it wasn't very quotable at all. You need goofy quotes to make it really shine.

I still prefer Arnold over Momoa, but Momoa was still a good Conan. My problem with the reboot was just as you said there's nothing memorable about the remake -- no sandahl bergman, no james earl jones, no guy who played king osric. The score isn't anywhere NEAR as good as the original, nor is the cinematography.

On it's own, the Conan remake is a solid film. But it's hard to talk about the new one without comparing it to the original -- and in that aspect it fails.

You know what? That's the first argument against the new one that I will accept as a valid point.

In all other cases, I can only say that the new one suffered from the fact that it was made in an era when bad movies aren't allowed to be bad movies for the sake of being a bad movie, and the first one was.

Totally agree. If you go back and watch the first one without the nostalgia glasses on, it is a terrible movie. It makes almost no sense and Arnold actually makes the movie less watchable.

You're either trolling or you have absolutely no sense of what makes a good movie. Conan the Barbarian was one of the greatest adventure movies ever made. Ever.

The 82 Conan was awesome because it was a bodybuilder, a show girl, a surfer, and an all star Oakland Raider mashed up with James Earl Jones and Max von Sydow, and Milius made it work.

The new version can't compete because it's *too* polished. It needs some amateur action.

I wouldn't be so sure. AMC shows movies all the time that are pretty farking far from an "American Movie Classic", including some fairly recent crappy films.

/the Conan remake was great - and it was NOT a remake. It was a different take and was much closer to the source. The original Arnold movie is just terrible. It was terrible then, it is terrible now. I love Arnold and ol' Darth Vader voice as much as the next dude but that movie is damn near unwatchable.

how to gauge a remake - if it is still pretty much the same film. I Am Legend (Will Smith) is a remake of Charlton Heston's Omega Man. Same damn film with different actors. These two Conan films however are really similar in name alone.

There were some very strange dialogue choices (particularly any time they shoehorned in some actual source-material) and there were some very strange plot choices (like when Conan has a boat-load of pirates just hanging around, perfectly willing to help, and then decides no, he'll do it alone, and shortly after, when he and wench apparently way, way far away from the boat of pirates to get their groove on). It was a two and a half, maybe 3 star movie at best. Special effects were nice, except for whatever the hell they did with Rose McGowen.

Overall, it was okay. It needed more camp. I know Conan wasn't originally camp, but that's the only way you could have a well-received movie based on the source material in modern day.

I was never a real fan of the original Conan flicks.

Thought the new one was ok. Saw it free and didn't want a movie. But not remarkable in any way either. It was a punch card movie; we need some wire fighting, some giant stuff, some hot chicks, etc.

And it was still overall kinda dull.

No.

Vincent Price starred in "The Last Man on Earth" in 1964. That was the first film version of "I am Legend." Omega Man was a remake of that. Technically.

i see that you people have never WATCHED Omega Man.

Dudes.... I Am Legend with Will Smith is a direct remake of that movie, down to the goddamn mannequins that Will keeps talking to. They did NOT make a movie of "I Am Legend", the fantastic Richard Matheson novel. They did NOT remake the mostly excellent "Last Man on Earth" with Vincent Price. They re-wrote the script of "Omega Man", the film that starred Charlton Heston, which was a very loose adaptation of "I Am Legend" the novel and filmed it with Will Smith.

That's pretty odd, consdering Matheson was given a writing credit in the Smith movie, just as he was in Omega Man. The only reason you see similarities in the two films is because the producer of I Am Legend liked Omega Man, and put some stuff in there as an homage.

So you're just gonna have to go back and adjust your definition of "facts" as they don't match up with reality.

Reality is that "I am Legend" has been turned into film three times.
