I sadly think so, too.

Forcing citizens to give money to corporations is called "Fascism". The GOP isnt in control and yet fascism flourishes.

What? No it's not. Read up on Facism. It's basically characterized by a push for a unified nationalistic identity.

I don't know what the correct term that you're searching for is, but it's not Fascism.

Since this isn't an issue of security, as the headline states, I wholeheartedly agree.

Hasn't that already been decided anyway?

My prediction is the Supreme Court will overturn the Healthcare act in a 5-4 split decision.

Decision due in late June: plenty of time to make it THE campaign issue of 2012.

Giving poor people the right to health sets a bad precedent. The government shouldn't be mandating the insurance I already have.

I don't know why bootstrappy Republicans hate it so much anyway. Since I'm sure they already buy health insurance it shouldn't affect them, and all it does is force the freeloaders to pay into the system that they already benefit from when they go to the ER for free. In a way it's almost LESS socialist than the current system.

Oh yeah, Obama did it so it must be bad.

Yes that's what wikipedia says, but based on my analysis of fark posts, a fascist seems to be anyone who holds a dissenting opinion.

I dunno, you guys. There are about 50 million people in the US who are uninsured right now. If you force them to pay their own way and prices continue to rise as they have been, it could be one hell of a tipping point for American politics.

Its the principle of it. Right now if you're self employed, and you don't buy health insurance, you can pay a doctor in CASH and get a discount. This law will adversely affect those individuals, and frankly it constitutes a tax on existing past the age of 18. How is that possibly legal?!

Sometimes they can be used interchangably. They're opposite sides of a coin forged out of authoritarianism, and only differ in regards to who they try to install as President-For-Life (And Often Beyond) and why. Fascists try to control minds, suppressing imagination with an overriding national identity, to make crime and dissent literally unthinkable. Socialists try to control economies with military seizure of all means of production, ostensibly to ensure equal distribution but never realizing that people will always find a way to make themselves more equal than others.

The means may differ, but the intent is the same: eliminating liberty for the sake of authority.

You mean in the same way they force you to have car insurance? Or in the same way they force you to have a driver's license (that you have to pay for), if you want to drive, or board an airplane? Or in the same way they force you to pay taxes for services you never use anyway?

So the republicans want people to be responsible citizens, except we shouldn't "force" people to be responsible citizens?

Yeah, I get it now.

The *nine* justices?

Wasn't Kagan part of the group that helped develop the law? Wouldn't that be a clear conflict of interest?

Or am I mis-remembering?

I'm imagining (yet somehow I don't think you meant it this way) that this is a call to end corporations and have the government take control of healthcare completely, so we don't have to give corporations any money at all.
