Had to go to the Deadspin article for unfunny backstory, then back to tfa to find out way too much information about a guy I probably never should've heard of. Al in all, this was a bad click for me.

Wait. So this wasn't a funny mistake in the broadcast, but just something Deadspin did and now a blog linking to that?

Your blog sucks.

No it's legit. I just pulled the game up on my mlb.tv subscription.
The Cardinals announcers were talking about how they didn't have a #91 on their roster list. After the graphic popped up they just kept calling him that. He was stranded at third.

Yeah, I wanted to second that. From the way I read TFA, it seemed like it was something stupid that an Internet guy superimposed; but no, the Cardinals broadcast showed "Minor League Guy." It was pretty funny.

Actually, the guy is pretty decent prospect. Won the Mid-West league batting title last year. I think he went 3 for 4 in a game against my Luggies last year.

/Yes, I said Luggies.
/Go Nuts!

Seriously, someone should get this in a super Hi-Def screenshot, print it on a nice high quality printer, and mail it off to ask for his autograph.

I miss the Lugnuts. Thursday nights were always the best.

Oh, I wish they would do that to Pedro Alvarez.

TFA: I'm guessing however that what you weren't doing was watching preseason MLB.

Anytime I've been home in the last two weeks, that's exactly what I've been doing. Probably be the same way for the next ~10 days.

It's like a preview for the 2012 Astros regular season.

I was listening to Hacksaw when they had the Padres radio guy on a few weeks ago and he asked him about this situation. Apparently the Padres radio guy will make up names on the fly if he doesn't have one, which I find very lulzy

I was at a spring game years ago in which a batter was not on the roster. The PA guy called him "The Player to be Named Later."

You had better believe living that down will be impossible. If he gets called up, he comes with that nickname built in.

Freaking awesome. What would be awesomer is if he were to become a great major-leaguer - Rookie of the Year, MVP, batting tiles, etc. He's still going to be "Minor League Player (on third)" in the clubhouse.

Worth it.

So, not an article about Brandon Inge?

I went to the last pre-season Cards game PSL a couple of summers ago. When the starters left the game, they walked out of the stadium with their equipment bags in tow, shaking hands with the regulars, getting in their cars and leaving. By the end of the game every player wore a number in the 90s, and I swear the batboy took the field. Pretty funny.

The Dodgers are giving their bat boy a tryout this Spring, actually.

Meh. 247 home runs in the minors would be a dubious honor, if ya think about it.

As a Cardinal fan I'm pretty excited about the kid. He's only 19 and cracked the Top 100 prospects of 2012
