No problem. Keep bashing his chest with a comically-oversized mallet. Ta dah, heartbeat.

Wrong Gallagher

And curse you for getting my hopes up

Okay, I haven't seen a death pool for this jackass yet, but I'm going to lay down my bet anyway.

He's not going to make it to see the 4th of July this year.

Are we sure this is him, or is his brother just copying his act again?

2012-03-25 11:45:29 PM
If he keeps having heart attacks like this, He'll never make it to age 70. Instead, he'll always be...

...

Stuck in the Sixties.

Two heart attacks, eh?
Knowing the way Gallagher works, he'll just keep having heart attacks for the next 20 years now...

Once he finds a gimmick, he doesn't let go easily.

When they wheeled him into the ER, the whole front row of people in the waiting room lifted their plastic bags just in case.

Let alone 'legendary'. Here's a short list of comedians who I consider / are considered legendary:
George Carlin
Lenny Bruce
Richard Pryor
Bill Hicks
Sam Kinison
Rodney Dangerfield
Don Rickles*

Does being dead help their 'legendary' status? Sure, but several of those comedians died long before their time, and were brilliant before passing on.

* not dead yet

He's an angry bitter asshole that never was funny in the first place. He's dug his own furious grave because he's not Bill Murray.

I personally hope he dies slowly to the mockery of the public at large.

According to our sources, Gallagher ran out of his heart medication

How exactly do you manage to run out of heart medication only days after having a heart attack?

Except Galleger made more than any of them through the 80's and up until 4 days ago was still performing regularly.

Say what you want, but America knew and loved him and he's outlasted so many others. And it is funny to see him just hit shiat with a mallet.

I sincerely doubt that Gallagher made more than George Carlin or Richard Pryor in the 80s. And Carlin would probably still be performing if not for death. Odds are, he would have had at least one more album out by now.

As to your second point... you're on the internet. Nothing that is popular and palatable to the masses can be good on the internet!

I know you're joking but he may well end up like my land whale of a father. He has heart attacks so often he doesn't even go to the doctor to get checked out any more. Just lies in bed for a few days until his strength comes back.

Maybe we can yank that heart back from Dick Cheney and shove it into Gallagher's chest.

They never should have given him his medication in a watermelon-shaped bottle.

According to Adam Carolla he was the highest, and then Adam complained about it, as he's wont to do. I'm not looking it up.

Legendary in the sense that everyone knows who he is by his name. We all assumed who it was reading the headline. Yeah, he had his schtick, but nonetheless has cemented himself into the minds of a generation or two.

Even funnier than a large sheet of paper being torn or watching water molecules bang into each other? I think not.

2012-03-26 07:28:37 AM
The best joke I've ever heard about Gallagher was when Comedy Central released their top 100 comedians of all time, and Gallagher was upset that he was 100th on the list (that part's true.) He was more upset though that the watermelon was ranked higher.

/big bucket of bitter

Classic Carlin, pertinent to the subject, as best I can remember it:

"I lead Richard Pryor in heart attacks, but on the other hand, Richard leads me in burning yourself up. No, here's what happened: first Richard had a heart attack, then I had a heart attack, then Richard burned himself up, then I said f**k that, I'm gonna have another heart attack."

He had to charge substantially higher rates in order to cover the cost of fruit replacement and mallet repair.

The trouble with getting him a transplant is where to find a matching donor heart that's "two sizes too small".

Makes you wonder if being a conservative is a significant factor in heart disease, don't it? Always living in an unfunny, bitter, mean-spirited little world. Hating yet living in mortal terror of anything you cannot dominate or destroy. It must be a personal Hell of their own making. What makes them scary is that they wish to inflict that Hell upon others to suffer in as well.

I'd add Benny, Carson, Newhart & Cosby over the last 4 on that list & that's no knock to any of them.

& judging by that photo of Gallagher, Billy Connolly should be warming up in the bullpen to taake over his act.

ok, I'll say it.. I think I used to catch Gallagher on comedy central in the early 90s. I remember most of his shows being pretty funny. He's no Carlin by any stretch, but I enjoyed him. He had a great wit for observational humor, and I did enjoy him smashing random crap.

Why exactly does everyone hate him? I noticed a lot of people mentioned racist. I dont remember anything like that, care to explain? I do know about the dumb feud between him and his brother but thats about it.

Well, some dislike him for the brouhaha with his brother several years back (his brother fell on hard times, Leo let him do his old acts and tour smaller clubs he didn't have time for, then younger brother Ron started blurring the lines, booking bigger clubs, and using newer material than allowed. When Leo sent him a cease and desist, after telling him to stop without involving lawyers, the whole family turned on Leo, even though Ron was breaching the contract). Others, probably quite a few more, dislike him for becoming quite scarily "right wing" (I'd call it going off the deep end, becoming very bitter, as I know right wing folks who'd never say half the shiat I read that he said). I found both situations really sad on different levels, the family desertion and the bitterness. I bet had the first not happened, he'd have not gotten nearly so bad in the latter, if at all.

The ten year old who watched his specials on VH1 hopes for a speedy recovery and many less bitter years for him. Hopefully these heart attacks are the catalyst for a less bitter and angry existence.

Because you don't sound like an angry asshole in the slightest.

I'm not saying I approve of his views, but it doesn't affect me, so why should I wish him death? The world is full of so many idiots who say stupid things that if you went through your life wishing every day for them to die you would be quite angry and bitter yourself.

Gallagher was hospitalized on March 14 after suffering a heart attack. He was placed in a medically induced coma for a few days until he healed.

He was funnier during the coma
