Having been in the ad bis since the 80s' in NYC, I really don't know why I've never watched this show yet. Really just a movie guy.

/will give it a go tonight

It helps if you've seen the rest of the show. The wikipedia article gives a good primer as to the main and supporting characters, but do realize you'll be watching a show with 4 seasons of history and characterization behind it. If you have questions, just ask here and somebody ought to give you a good answer.

Netflix is streaming Season 1-4 on instant. I can't imagine jumping into this in S5. Try season 1, at least an episode.

It's really got nothing to do with advertising. It's just that, as the series opens in the late 50s, ad men were to that era what hedge fund managers are to today. It's about how (almost exclusively) white men and women got on and got it on during an era that thus far has spanned 1959-1965. When a woman was supposed to be a housewife or a typist. Production values are very high, great sets and wardrobe. There's an astonishing amount of smoking and drinking.

Unabashed fan of the show. I spent all Friday and yesterday watching Seaon 4 again, because it's been so long and I'd forgotten some of the story lines. Give it a try.

I can't watch tonight since I don't have cable, but I bought a season pass on Amazon which means I can watch it starting tomorrow morning (or whenever I want to) w/o ads. I hope you enjoy.

Meantime, *must* stay off thread this evening. I don't want spoilers.

Thank you for the info.

In the early 80's, Madison Ave was just like this, we had crazy parties when accounts were big and spending the bucks. Now, not so much.

/now we have thirsty Thursdays where they don't even know how to open a keg.

I know what you mean. I started work in the late 70s, but as a 16 yo. Professional firm. (story too long). I can confirm that the hours (this was Europe) were 8AM -12:30PM and 2PM to 5PM. 90 minutes for lunch. I had a flat across the street and no money, so I'd go home and eat a cheese sandwich, read a book, clean, do laundry. The guys hit the pub every day. Every day. I went on a few client lunches with the partner and a client and had three G&Ts. I spent the rest of the afternoon pretending my eyes were focused.

In this thread.

Grand Voivode: is this stupid show still on? what is wrong with you people? it's Models Inc. set in the 1960's. the only decent thing about it is Joan Holloway, and it reminds me there was a time once when this country treated gays the right way.

Don't worry Big bang theory won't be cancelled you'll still have something to watch. Let the adults enjoy their shows.

I've wondered since saw the first season -- why is the guy falling in the opening credits?
