I'm surprised the idiots in my city haven't thought of that. In the last couple years, we've had three 300+ units go up in flames from smoking.
I don't smoke, never have, but you can't outlaw dumb ass decisions.

I look forward to the day when Smoking and tobacco products are 100% illegal.

Why?

Because I can't wait to hear the whining, biatching, and moaning when the anti-smoking Nazis go after something that the dumbasses who allow smoking bans happen to like.

Fast food, booze, soda, porn... it'll be one of them. And when the consumers of those things wind up taxed and targeted, my black little lungs will wheeze out the strongest laugh they can.

That's a great idea. All smokers should be exiled to an island off the coast.

None of these affect non-users to the effect that smoking does, with the possible exception of booze.

So?

People who want to tell you how to live your life won't care. They just want to make sure you can't enjoy something they don't approve of.

Need evidence of that? The PTC and their letters to the FCC about shows they could easily have turned off instead of listening to or watching.

That's what Anti-Smoking Nazis are. They don't approve of what you do, so they're going to make sure you can't do it. Not in your car, your home, nowhere, because they don't approve.

I live in condos, so I'm not sure a law like that would apply to my building, but my next door neighbor smokes so heavily that the entire hallway outside of her unit stinks 24/7, and it's a long hallway.

The only thing that the condo board did was to put an air freshener in the hallway (this was even before I moved in).

For anyone who believes that smokers' rights are inviolable, how is it that she has the right to make it so unpleasant in the hallway, even though she owns her unit? Why isn't it on her to vent her smoke in a more responsible manner that doesn't piss off the neighbors?

If she was creating noise 24/7, or garbage, it would be on her to stop making noise or to clean up the garbage. Why should smoke be different?

You don't think your own apartment is an appropriate place to light up? Public areas, sure. Keep those smoke free but really?

/Quit two years ago.
//You can't smoke in my house but if I come to yours I have no right to complain.

Smoking rules:
1) If it is a place you have no choice but to go to, such as a police station, court house, federal or state office building or hospital, these places shall be deemed non smoking.
2) If it is any place that is not covered in rule 1, then it is up to the owner of the facility to determine if that facility will allow smoking.

If you don't want to be around smoke, don't go to places that allow smoking. If you work in a bar or a restaurant or other facility that allows smoking, you know what you have gotten into when you were employed there. If you don't like it, find another place of employment.

/Not a smoker.
//Doesn't like to go to smoking facilities.

In regards to your strawman about the ovens, I'll bite. People need to prepare food, no one needs to smoke.
As for your body, it's your business until it infringes on another person's body. While I'm all for letting people with poor judgment poison themselves, they have no right to ruin the air quality when sharing a space with non-smokers.

Although it would never happen, I would vote for a complete prohibition of smoking anything. It smells horrible, butts littered everywhere. I can still smell it from your apartment, driving in front of me, and even your backyard drifting in the breeze into my nostrils. At the very least they should heavily tax that. And junk food. Double cheeseburger at MCDs should be like 5$ minimum. Bag of chips at the store, 6-8$.

Right-wing authoritarians will tell you how porn is sinful and deviant, how it causes unnatural feelings of lust and destroys sacred marriages, while the leftists will tell you how porn is horrifyingly degrading to women, and should be banned for promoting all forms of misogyny.

Fast food? It increases all our health insurance rates, it promotes a lifestyle of gluttony and excess, and we all suffer because of obese people. Likewise with soda. I'm sure some scientist will quickly create a study showing how soda makes us all diabeetic and should be forbidden from public spaces (that's always what they start with), and slapped with a dozen sin taxes.

If the gov't really cared about the health of its citizens, then it would just make smoking illegal. Instead, you get these patchwork regulations while they raise taxes that soon only the hard core smokers will wind up paying. No one is really serious about saving your life, it's just a cash grab.

I quit smoking when 1) it got too expensive and 2) it was hard to find a place to live where smokers were allowed. Besides, quitting saved me $1200 a year.

They banned smoking in my apartment complex a few months ago. I've been living there for over 10 years and now I can't enjoy a smoke on the balcony. Instead, I have to smoke inside with the windows closed so the neighbors don't notice and report me.

Fark 'em.

My take, as an anti-smoking person whose friends are all anti-smoking, but I've dated a guy who was a smoked (and he was so polite about it, I barely noticed).

1. you do not smoke around me
2. you do not smoke around my friends (same reason, they don't like smokers).
3. you do not smoke inside, anywhere
4. you do not smoke on my property. that's right. I don't care that there's a deck, don't be a smoke on it. This also includes areas close enough that the smoke would enter my home- aka, under windows, etc.
5. If you smell so badly of smoke that you leave areas of my home smelling of smoke, then you're no longer welcome in my home.

And I'm a pretty hardcore anti-smoking. So if your GF has rules stricter than mine, you've got issues.

Yeah. Because burning tires and forcing the fumes into the ventaliation system is exactly like lighting up a cigarette.

Wish they would do that in my apartment. The people down stairs smoke in the bathroom and it always makes my place smell.

Food can be prepared at a restaurant. No need to have something in the apartment that could start a fire and threaten other units.

Also, I don't live with anyone else and we don't share ventilation, so what the f*ck difference does it make if I smoke in my apartment?

The entire economy may be a crater and our money becoming worthless as we slide into a sea of debt notes, blown out by a confetti cannon in DC, sure. We might be in a state of cultural turmoil as different factions of criminals, some in bandanas, some in suits and ties - vie to be the last people standing while our nation is gutted wholesale and we may be up to or tits in hubris, ignorance and amoral "ME ME!" bullsh*t, but if we can JUST STOP ALL THIS DAMN SMOKING, we, as a nation will rise again! Can you feel the safeness? Can you feel the security of being one of the People Who Care™? God grant me the smugness to gerrymander the lives of others! For FREEDOM!
