(WHPTV Harrisburg)   Sheesh. It's getting to be you can't spread the word of the Lord to kids by abducting them, putting pillow cases over their heads, taking them to your van and interrogating them anymore without their parents getting all pissy   (whptv.com) divider line 134

Religion is a mental illness, and should be treated as such.

If I tell people I talk to an invisible man in the sky and ask him for stuff, they think I'm crazy, and rightly so. But if I tell them I pray, that's A-OK!

Who cares if this was a "pretend" abduction? It should be treated as a real one, and the perpetrators arrested, thrown in prison, and then they can wonder why no one in the sky is answering their pleas of "DEAR JESUS, GOD, WHY IS THIS HAPPENING?" as they're sodomized on a nightly basis.

Dumbasses

According to the laws of Pennsylvania, a person is guilty of kidnapping if s/he unlawfully removes another a substantial distance under the circumstances from the place where s/he is found, or if s/he unlawfully confines another for a substantial period in a place of isolation, with any of the following intentions:
- To hold for ransom or reward, or as a shield or hostage.
- To facilitate commission of any felony or flight thereafter.
- To inflict bodily injury on or to terrorize the victim or another.
- To interfere with the performance by public officials of any governmental or political function.
Kidnapping is a felony of the first degree if a removal or confinement is unlawful and is accomplished by force, threat or deception. In the case of a person who is under the age of 14 years or an incapacitated person, it is first degree if it is accomplished without the consent of a parent, guardian or other person responsible for general supervision of his welfare. In addition, a person who knowingly receives, retains or disposes of any money which constitutes a ransom is guilty of a felony in the third degree[ii].

I think a simple comma between "in" and "blind" would have done it. But yeah, I stared at that line for a while trying to figure it out.

Sliding Carp: This wouldn't have happened if those kids had been carrying.

This. Those morons risked more than prosecution with this stunt. One bystander with a gun seeing this happen could have ruined their whole day.

Church leaders say this was a learning exercise designed to teach about religious freedom.

It's an Assembly of God church, so they were probably talking about having the freedom to deny rights to people they don't like. Because Jesus.

Unbelievable. Bad enough that you spew this "OMG we're so persecuted" garbage, but then to go to these lengths, with kids?

Damn it, it is not impossible for religious people to rub two brain cells together. I know it seems hard to believe that sometimes, but I know a lot of very religious people that are not this farking stupid. Someone in that church needs to grow a pair and stand up for common farking decency.

If it was never meant to horrify, as the pastor says, one wonders what exactly it WAS intended to do? Make the kids burst out laughing when they discovered it was all a joke?

WTF?

It was meant to indoctrinate. "See, this is what the government is going to do to you someday". It's really quite horrifying to think this kind of crap is going on. This is like Waco-level crazy.

My reaction to the article was as such:

"But one girl was so shaken up that her parents have now gone to police."

One family is going to the police!? Only one? Seriously, just how brainwashed is this town? Reading further on in the article...

"Pastor Lanza says moving forward they will notify parents first but he won't stop doing it. He says the lesson is too important."

Well that's reassuring, isn't it? "Sorry for traumatizing your kids, before we do it next time we'll let you know. Please don't call the cops on us. Forgive us, after all, that's what Jesus would do, right?."

If only the Catholic Church was this forthcoming when they traumatize kids.

2012-03-23 10:20:11 PM
Youth group leader Andrew Jordan says the exercise was never meant to horrify.

BULLSH*T!!

Pastor Lanza says moving forward they will notify parents first. but he won't stop doing it. He says the lesson is too important.

F*ck you, Lanza! You don't get to rough up and terrorize children because "Jebus".

Put this man in jail! He is a menace to society!

If a Mosque had done this the whole lot of them would have been rounded up under anti-terror laws.

2012-03-23 10:21:16 PM
These people need to go to jail. "Oh it's about religion so it's cool right?"

Hell no.

It's not a fake abduction to the participants if they don't know it's fake. So it should be prosecuted accordingly- attempted kidnapping.

2012-03-23 10:23:11 PM
I'm curious as to what the point of the whole thing was. We did something similar in Krav Maga class, but the purpose was to fight your way out and be able to provide enough detail in a police report to be helpful.

OMG! We're All Gonna Die!: Am I the only one that went to a normal roman catholic grade school and high school?

Yes. I got threatened with violence constantly and had the linebacker sized principal himself cram a bar of soap down my throat because some of the other terrorized children said they heard me cuss on the playground.

I was 6.

here to help: If a Mosque had done this the whole lot of them would have been rounded up under anti-terror laws.

Exactly. But oh, Christians are so persecuted, we just don't understand.

Just having the cops show up will probably give the pastor a months worth of "jack booted thugs" sermons.

CthulhuCalling: I'm curious as to what the point of the whole thing was. We did something similar in Krav Maga class, but the purpose was to fight your way out and be able to provide enough detail in a police report to be helpful.

They were trying to make the kids think that other religions or non-theists are actually going to do crap like that to them. They are trying to instill a persecution complex through extreme psychological warfare.

Absolutely f*cking disgusting.

What's even more disgusting is the bulk of the parents are okay with this.

See my post above. It's not about religious freedom. It's about THEIR religious freedom. They are training the youngins to distrust and fear anyone but their own kind.
