My prediction:

There is going to be a Federal investigation, because it's clear that it's a hate crime. It's going to have Terri Schiavo-sized national attention, and a certain group of people on the political spectrum are going to start railing against hate crime laws, and how they're ridiculous and subjective and it's nothing but government overreach.

During this time, there will be trolls. There will be people accusing others of being racist. There will be reverse-racism retorts. It will be madness. And that certain political group trying to defend this as NOT being a hate crime will once again come out the other side worse for wear, appearing as nothing more than trigger-happy, pro-gun racists.

I'm sorry, but what Geraldo has said is so profoundly stupid there is no defense for it. It's not about left or right, it's just wrong.

People get all worked up over his comments for no good reason. Stop taking what he's saying ultra-literally and it starts to make sense. Obviously your team hoodie or favorite band hoodie on a mid-30s white guy with a beard isn't very threatening. In a perfect world, a plain black hoodie with the hood up on a suspicious acting black teen isn't threatening either.

However in reality, a plain black hoodie with the hood up is the preferred apparel of burglars, thieves, and felons across the country. This, in addition to a person being an ethnic minority, another person having been victimized by people who resemble the person in question, and this person having a gun at his disposal, and voila, you get a dead kid and a media shiatstorm.

It's certainly not okay to shoot people regardless of what they're wearing. Zimmerman clearly shouldn't have done that. Given the factors though, you can see what he was thinking. Wrong, yes. Boldface cold-blooded murder in the name of race? No. He didn't shoot him because he was black. He shot him because he thought he was a criminal and he was fed up with that shiat.

Before you all continue to lambaste Geraldo(who I admit is a tool), just ask yourself how you'd feel if a young black male in a baggy black hoodie with the hood up and hands in his pockets started to follow you while you walk down a city street? Would you feel differently if it were a white guy with a buttondown and a briefcase? I would. I wouldn't shoot the person regardless, but this makes me a klan member?
