Bullet points....

* Ghostbusters 2 was phoned in by everyone

* Sequels to comedies almost universally suck

* Bill Murray's been a sad sack in everything he's been in for the last couple decades with the exception of his cameo in Zombie Land

* Ghostbusters 3 would have inevitably introduced some asshole replacement crew involving the Apatow guys or the douchebags from The Hangover

So let's just remember the awesome original and for gamers, apparently the game was pretty cool.

It's rather funny that the writer was picking on Dan Akaroyd as a hack. Akaroyd was nominated for an Oscar for Driving Miss Daisy. He's been in some good stuff on his own.

It almost seems like a comedians film career are far shorter in length. You can get four or five good films out of them, then they suck. Or they try the "serious" phase...which when done well, makes them last just a little longer.

Yeah but that movie was as Oscar bait as they come. Of course he was nominated. It's like the horse getting nominated in War Horse.

He tackles Garfield, but completely ignores Osmosis Jones, City of Ember, or Get Smart. If those didn't ruin his career, and 3rd Ghostbuster's wouldn't either.

Well you're certainly entitled to your opinion, but I found him to be excellent in Rushmore.

I'm hoping he signed over his likeness as Venkman for "All future and derivative works" and they use images of him from the original movies to make ghost Venkman.

Why? Because fark you, that's why. I don't care if they make a 3, I just want to see them slip in that unauthorized cameo.

Everything Murray has achieved to this point could be destroyed by Ghostbusters III.

Yeah, no.

Yeah, I think writing off his characters in Rushmore and Lost in Translation as "sad sacks" is pretty dismissive of two awesome and highly charismatic characters.

For the record, it doesn't matter to me why he's not doing GBIII. It's the right choice whatever the reason. Fark Ayckroyd and his need to Blues Brothers 2000 everything.

Bill Murray saved his money better.

There, I saved you all the trouble of reading a longer article. If Bill Muray was broke he would be leg humping the franchise with the rest of them.

Bill Murray ruined the Ghostbusters franchise. Yes, fine, he's responsible for part of why the first movie is so awesome, but it was against his will.

He's also part of the reason that Lorenzo Music was fired as the voice of Peter Venkman in The Real Ghostbusters. I strongly encourage everyone to check out the first two seasons of The Real Ghostbusters -- very good writing all around with J. Michael Straczynski as the series editor. Thanks to Bill Murray's hate for the cartoon, though, they decided to shake everything up and basically ruin it.

So fark Bill Murray, and let's forget about Ghostbusters III. Let us enjoy the nostalgia of one of the best comedies of all time without it being further ruined.

Article's main point: Bill Murray won't do Ghostbusters III because, unlike Eddie Murphy, he knows what a bad movie can do to your career.

Solution: Cast Eddie Murphy in Bill Murray's place in Ghostbusters III.

ShawnDoc: He tackles Garfield, but completely ignores Osmosis Jones, City of Ember, or Get Smart. If those didn't ruin his career, and 3rd Ghostbuster's wouldn't either.

OK, I've seen Osmosis Jones, and while it wasn't great by any standard, it was passable as a kids movie.

City Of Ember, I've never seen.

But the fact that you try to rip him for Get Smart pretty much invalidates your whole argument right there. He had a CAMEO as a secret agent hidden in a tree - which, by the way, was hilarious.

I'm torn on Ghostbusters III....I kind of want to see it happen...but on the other hand, the odds are so high that it would be a vortex of crap that it's almost inevitable,

Obviously Bill Murray isn't stupid, he didn't sign on to Caddyshack 2 like Dan Aykroyd did.
Aykroyd pretty much played Murray's role of Carl Spackler in the sequel.
And I don't know a single person who can remember the name of the character he played or one single line of dialogue he spoke.
I do know people who can quote every line of Murray's from the original.
Maybe that's why they don't get along?

Bill Murray is a crater faced hack whose best moments are a few spots in some ok films and his early days on SNL.

The author gives Bill Murray too much credit. I see Bill Murray less as a secret genius, and more as an average guy who happens to be rich and an actor. Like the average guy, he enjoys going to parties, watching/playing sports, and travelling the world. Like an average guy who happens to be rich, he does what he pleases and only works if he feels like it or absolutely needs to.

Basically, I see Bill Murray as an older, wealthier Jeff Lebowski.

None of those guys have aged well. Do we really want to see graps running around in depends teaching he next gen how to fight ghosts?

Go play the 2009 videogame, which was a direct sequal, and can be had for $5 in a bargin bin and get your kicks. Decent story, interactive, fun and pretty much the direct sequel that the movie would most likely take.

It be a horrible movie, but it was a pretty fun game for those nostalgic for more.

Rebooting GB would be like rebooting back to the future. I'll wish a thousand deaths on the fraker who tries to. Better time is spend rebooting shiatty, campy old stuff to make it better. Rebooting original classics that aren't comic book worlds is dumb.

Others take the opposite path and are very successful with it - Leslie Nielsen.
