It's like these people wake up in the morning and think, "What completely ignorant thing can I say on TV today?".

The ability of Fox News to consistently limbo ever lower beneath the line of decency continues to amaze me.

It's Geraldo, I don't think there is much thinking going on in that head.

Gun don't kill people. Hoodies kill people.

The company who owns the Champion brand really needs a better lobby.

Geraldo Rivera's mustache is just as responsible for his bad journalism as his dishonesty & inability to think critically.

They can't. The countless think tanks and groups pay Fox News to broadcast their side of the story. If Fox News didn't say anything about this the NRA would have their balls in a vice.

Hoodie responsible for murder.

Justice was fleeced.

2012-03-23 11:58:00 AM
Considering the popularity of hoodies, it's amazing we have any children left at all.

When you wear a hoodie, you're supporting genocide.

2012-03-23 11:58:09 AM
True. I mean, hoodies alone are responsible for firing hundreds upon thousands of rounds downrange every year, while guns in the hands of anxious idiots with chips on their shoulders looking to prove something simply are just innocent bystanders...

Seriously, kids. This is defending an issue simply to be on the "other" side, as opposed to actually defending someone deserves it. It's sort of akin to the folks who leaped to the side of the cat who happened to be a Christian, while raising a child army and leading rape gangs.

Sometimes, the "other side" isn't an ideological divide, but a real line of lunacy and wrong. Not understanding that, sort of taints any position that you then take, because why you do something is as important to what you actually do. You save a girl from drowning because you want to squeeze her boobs while everyone watches, you're not a hero. People need to remember that...

One black blogger says the point more eloquently :

This is the very reason why I tell my son not to wear hoodies and such "indicators" because when you are dead, it's too late. My message to him has been that this is the society you live in and you have to be realistic. My own parents were as frank to me, when I was a boy; over and over, they said all the talk about equality is just talk, you have to protect your life, and to do so you have to do things white kids don't have to do.

Crucify the murderer in the court of law... then take away your kid's hoodies.

I...just don't get it. Even Fox News, the mothership of ass-backward misanthropic propaganda, should be able to stumble their way onto the right side of the story. It's just. That. Clear. And yet they chose to take the most disgusting victim-blaming narrative this side of "Look at the short skirt; she deserved it."

It's one of those things that's so shameful-yet-predictable you start to feel silly for thinking it'll actually happen. Until it actually happens.

hubiestubert: This is defending an issue simply to be on the "other" side, as opposed to actually defending someone deserves it.

That's Fox News' corporate motto, right there. It's only fair and balanced if someone can take an opposing side. Water is wet you say? Partisan hackery! Water can be dry. After all, we have dry ice don't we?

Fox News - equal time for idiocy

I was listening to an NPR segment the other day about this, and a black caller said pretty much the same thing, he said they were all (him, his family, every black person he knows) taught at a young age how to act. Don't run with anything in your hands, don't wear certain types of clothing, don't make any sudden moves.

It's quite sad that minorities have to go through that, but I guess like it or not it IS the reality, I guess if I were black, I'd tell my kids the same.

You do what the guy who pays you says to do, and that guy does what the guy who pays him says what to do. if Geraldo didn't want to do it there are hundred other people willing to say whatever to get on TV. Fox News is a paid advocacy group. Do you really think every person on that staff is a functional retard? If they were it would like the Free Republic had a public access show.

2012-03-23 12:15:10 PM
Ok... white people get to shoot black people displaying threatening clothes like hoodies and black people get to shoot white people displaying threatening signs like the confederate flag. No questions asked.

(I know hoodies and confederate flags are not in the same symbolism league... but this being America, we still have to set this things in whitey's favor).

1, 2, 3... GO!

Digby, insightful as always.

--

We talk about racism all the time, but I think we tend to focus on the wrong thing. This fear of young black men among a certain sub-group of the population runs deep and it's exploited and manipulated by politicians and groups like the NRA who feed into the stereotypes. These people do not think of themselves as racists --- they think being a racist means that you consciously believe racial minorities are inferior. But it isn't just that, although that's often a part of it. It's also this irrational fear of "the other" which some people just can't or won't let go of when it comes to African Americans.

But it's not just racism, although it certainly seems to be a factor in Trayvon Martin's death and many death across the country. It's also this insane gun culture, which is killing people every day for no good reason. The NRA has been holding this country hostage for decades now, insisting that the more people carry guns the safer we are. Unfortunately, the people who tend to buy that swill are would-be cops and vigilantes like George Zimmerman. Link (new window)

You have to wonder how much Fox would be howling if the kid had a gun and had turned it on this asshole.

2012-03-23 01:42:13 PM
Since when is a hoodie gangsta-wear? I mean, I wear a hoodie every day. And I'm as white as hell.

Down here its black jeans with boxers exposed, and a white t-shirt. If a black kid is wearing that, I'm not going to friggin' shoot him. And maybe in our racist society, he is making himself a target.

But just on balance... a hoodie?

GAT_00: You have to wonder how much Fox would be howling if the kid had a gun and had turned it on this asshole.

That's a huge problem with the law. Criminals are using it as a legal defense. Sometimes the criminal isn't always the aggressor, per se. Go looking for a target, target doesn't take kindly to that idea, crook shoots target in "self-defense." And it has worked in a few cases.

Look at what he was wearing. He was clearly asking for it.

Just another victim-blaming excuse.

The real question is, should I respond to him with a, "You're completely in the wrong, my pastor wears a hoodie", or a, "Don't forget to mention the hoodlums that riot in England!"

I admit, I have no idea what the conservative endgame is these days. What exactly are they gaining by taking a contrary stance on ABSOLUTELY EVERY issue in the news? You know, if Rush Limbaugh raped a baby and put it in a blender in the middle of Times Square, someone on Fox News would have a justification or harp on about how we're ignoring "the real issue". At this point, I wouldn't bat an eye.
