The ONLY thing that redeemed Happy Feet was that this was an extra on the DVD. We loved the hell out of it when I was a kid and I'd completely forgotten its existence.

Well, since they are likely to have witnessed 2012, Hitch, Blood Diamond, Fantastic 4, or at least one of the Twilight films I'm not sure they'd be able to cope on their own. The therapy required to handle Fantastic 4 alone might take longer than their lifespans.

/to be fair, at least none of them are Daredevil
//might get points for having Fawlty Towers.

The Owl Artist
... or ...
Whatever Happened to Karl?

An artist named Karl drew owls
On the bedsheets and napkins and towels;
He sketched on the doors,
On the walls and the floors.
And ignored all his wife's warning growls.

There were owls in the kitchen and hall,
There were short owls and fat owls and tall;
There were skinny owl creatures
With ludicrous features;
There were big owls and owls that were small.

There were owls on the sugar container;
There were three on an old battered strainer;
He sketched owls in lots
On his wife's pans and pots.
(Her objections could not have been plainer.)

There was one owl with ears like a goat
That he sketched on his wife's brand new coat;
He drew five in a row
On his daughter's big toe,
And four on the toilet bowl float.

There were owls that had talons immense
That he sketched on their white garden fence;
He drew owls everywhere
And he didn't much care
That his home life was growing quite tense.

Came the day his poor wife had enough,
And she shouted, "Get rid of this stuff!
I am sick of these birds!"
(And other such words)
And she stormed through the house in a huff.

But the artist had no time to dicker
(Though he paused for a moment to kick her).
His fame spread so wide
That he darned nearly died
As he tried to paint quicker and quicker.

There's a very sad end to this tale
That may cause you to weep, sob and wail:
A tremendous old owl
Snatched him up with a howl
And devoured him just like a quail.

In the woods during full moon, it's told,
Comes a song oft-repeated and bold;
It's a long, mournful cry,
Half a moan, half a sigh.
And it tends to cause blood to run cold.

When they say, "It scares me ... does it you?"
I reply, "No, it just makes me blue."
For I know that the call
Is just Karl, that's all,
Perched up there, saying "Whoooo, dammit.....Whoooo!"

Both species are native to the US and Canada. Killing one to protect the other seems wrong. Why are we interfering with natural selection? What's next? Do we start killing great horned owls, because they feed on and displace every other species of owl?

Julie Cochrane: I'm the only one sad that these owls are doomed to a lifetime of reproductive loneliness because of the human fetish instilled by their warped childhood, aren't I?

I need to get out more.

Aww, I think they'll be okay. Instincts are powerful things. They are one male and one female, judging by the names, and they probably wouldn't give a hoot about incest. But if they are not allowed to pleasure each other for the sake of their humans' peace of mind, they could probably self-pleasure as well. Birds can do that. At least, parrots can. (I have had a male lovebird as a pet. He knew what to do.) I'm assuming owls can, too.

It might be a faulty assumption as well, but I am always open to being corrected.

/Needs to get out more, too.

Yes, because environmentalism means stopping nature so that it is frozen to what it is like right now, the way environmentalisms think it is.

Conservationism allows management and change so there is a balance that can exist with humans.

Environmentalists like deer and moose and pretty animals, so they used to be against wolves, dogs and coyotes.

Conservationists figured out that you need wolves and coyotes to keep the deer population in check so it doesn't explode and then collapse.

Ranchers hate them both and only want cattle to live.

You need a license, there are three types that will cover owls. Rehabber (which allows you to keep a bird of prey until it can be released), educator (which allows you to keep unreleasable birds permanently), or falconer's (a sporting license that allows you to keep birds of prey for hunting. It does cover owls even though they're pretty much useless for falconry). I really doubt this guy has one though.

I sort of doubt it too: Jimmy Robinson, a wildlife park keeper at Longleat Safari Park in Wiltshire, England.

/Seems like he'd probably be aware of any similar UK/EU requirements though...

bird dad Jim looks a lot like a nephew, Jason. i don't know Jim so I'll tell you about Jason.

Jason is a nice young man who is a pro photographer. He favors extreme statement haircuts and being thin. Jason has a cute girlfriend who has it going on.

When Jason was a boy he collected b/o animated gorillas that sang. Jason has an older brother who is a talented musician, a comic book geek boy and a pro in the hospitality field.

Also, every one of those pictures needs a "Now, my brother?" and "No, my brother, but soon..." caption.

I could not get through the opening scene of Happy Feet. This song and cartoon have just stuck in my head for 35+ years. Quality never goes out of style. I still believe that. Levi's used as their motto, before they outsourced their production and started using substandard cotton and labor.

When my ex left my DVDs were stripped down to a few boxed collections and my B-movies that I watched while high/drunk/programming. But she DID still watch Sex & the City. YMMV.
