Thrakkerzog: skullkrusher: worked for BO against McSameCain

Not really. Of course there was some of that, but the majority was explaining his positions and proposed solutions. Actually, a lot of it was debunking absurd FW: FW: FW: FW: chains, unfortunately.

Anyway, it was a lot more than "not him". The republican party, on a whole, was pretty toxic in 2008, so I'll give you that.

hehe, it was half of his campaign slogan, homie

2012-03-23 11:43:32 AM

indylaw: Not a horrible point, but I think the GOP also hates him because the party establishment wants to elect good, safe country-club types who will protect the plutocracy, and this yappy Catholic comes in and starts ranting about women's vaginas, which turns off moderates and drives Democrats to the polls.

makes them want to start doing some pruning around the Dallas area.

Santorum thinks he can win the independent vote.
He really believes that.

That should be enough evidence that he's unfit for office.

He can't even win probably about 1/3 to 1/2 of the (R) vote - I certainly would not hold my nose and vote for him --- then again I don't think I can vote for Romney either..... or Paul..... or..... hmmmmm guess there's a first for everything.

spongeboob: ignatius_crumbcake: Durendal: This is...Jesus, are you kidding me? Romney may be a stuffed suit, but he at least has a shot at grabbing swing votes. Santorum? Not a farking chance in hell. Anyone with three braincells could tell you that.

These people don't believe in swing voters. Seriously, go read Free Republic sometime. They believe that they are the majority and are simply drowned out by the heathen liberal media. To them, independent, moderate voters don't exist.

I would love Frothy to be nominated just so we can finally have it out with these cretins. If he loses, then they can shut up about being the silent majority. If he wins, we deserve what we get.

If they had their candidate and he lost they would not believe it proved anything wrong with their position. They would just think the election was stolen or that the liberal media had done the job of suppressing conservative voter turnout.

It is like crazies and the end of the world that is so nigh, they always have a reason it didn't the last time but they are right this time.

Yah, this desire to reach irrational people and change their minds is a no go. I read a book recently that had some chapters on just how far people's brains will go to maintain a 'safe/stable' view of the world they create for themselves. You can show them slow-motion, frame by frame, proof that they are wrong and they will still justify their belief. There is no point in trying to bring them along for the ride; they want, even need, to stay aboard their crazy train in order to survive.

It's best to marginalize them in a quiet way without feeding into to too many of their conspiracy theories or riling them unnecessarily. They will always act out, though, and believe stupid shiat - you just can't change it. It's a weird place that these people are at, not crazy enough to institutionalize, but crazy enough not to be able to participate civilly in a society that wants to accept change.

Obama supporters really like him. Sure they hated Bush, but most of the people I know who voted for Obama genuinely liked him and thought he'd be a great president in 2008.

I remember in 04, johnkerryisadouchebagbutimvotingforhimanyways.com Didn't really see a whole lot of that for Obama in 08, but I'm sure we'll see some sort of romneyisaliarandadickbutimgonnavoteforhimanywaysbecauseNOSOCIALISM website this year.

I see the GOP is already starting the "we lost because Romney wasn't conservative enough" line, which in the long run will only help people like Santorum. So, it's not as dumb as it sounds, though it still sounds remarkably stupid.

I keep wondering how much farther Republicans can push this victimization thing... pretty far, I guess.

Heck up until Palin I wasn't too sure which way I was going to vote -- both McCain and Obama seemed like good solid choices.

Then McCain threw the race and made the decision easy.

hehe yeah but that didn't work for Kerry.

And it won't work for Rick. :)

Running on the "not him" platform is a losing strategy.

worked for BO against McSameCain

W's approval was like 17% or something though

which is why it made sense to run on "I'm not the other guy who is just like the guy you hate"

That is tough. I choose not to participate in many family functions, and if I do I make sure to have an excuse to only spend a couple hours tops. It works pretty well, since the first 2 hours is usually all the happy greeting stuff, and eating food, before people get antsy and start filling the dead space with silly beliefs (for the record, I only have a couple of right wing family members, most of the crazy in my more Democrat leaning family are people who don't believe in vaccinations but do believe in magical Atlanteans). And I don't stay friends with people who hold batshiat crazy beliefs; it just wears me out, and I want to enjoy friends and life, not dread hearing more crazy shiat coming out of someone's mouth/keyboard all the time.

That's because Santorum is not running for the 2012 nomination. He's running for 2016.

Wha?

Yes. A Romney nomination (and subsequent defeat) will be percieved as not a win for Obama but a loss for the GOP base for failing to nominate a "conservative" enough candidate. They will demand a culture warrior in the next election.

This is a good thing. After getting nuked from Orbit in 2016, perhaps the vagina police will shut the fark up.

No, but it points out hypocrisy. If Obama should resign because of X, then should Bush have resigned because of Y? Facts don't work on these people. Pointing out their hypocrisy means they usually shut up or leave. Either way works.

The fun part about this: They're all...ALL OF THEM are giving President Obama ammunition for whoever survives that race.

The Obama campaign machine is probably running at 20% capacity just for all of these quotes, not to mention all of the pro-Obama PACs. You watch, by the time the RNC's over the pro-Obama PACs alone will be throwing out enough soundbites that by the night of the first debate, the GOP candidate will be fighting just to stay relevant in the race. It'll be a repeat of Palin having to just be decent v. Biden so that the GOP ticket doesn't go down in flames.

Obama being black. That's all that's ever been to it. Either RJ's trolling, or he's a racist, plain and simple.

But, I think this is part of Santorum's strategy. See, he pisses off all the voters, then backs Obama, now everything Santorum's said is Obama's fault, Romney wins!
