Headline rules.

2012-03-22 01:49:03 PM
nice headline...

as for the article.

People who believe President Barack Obama was born in Africa have filed a lawsuit demanding California's secretary of state verify the eligibility of presidential candidates before allowing them on the November ballot.

And the SoS looks over at the President's birth certificate, says "okay, we're good" and gets on with his or her life.

haha....great headline...

Hillary and company should just give it a rest. The birther debate is over.

Just when you think the right wing can't get any nuttier this election cycle, this non-story is creeping up again?

I hope the right wing runs with this B.S. during the general election, the lulz would be awesome.

Bravo! Great headline.

I wondered whose derp would bring Romney's citizenship into question. Now we know.

Rubio is under investigation by Birthers too.

//To bad Granholm can't run for President. We know she's Canadian born though.

Oh, you bet your ass they will. And I will laugh and laugh and laugh as their stupidity eats itself. And then I will get sad at the total lack of real candidates and choices on either "side".

I'm beginning to think that anyone filing a birther lawsuit should be shot without trial.

2012-03-22 02:00:37 PM
The suit was filed by Republican primary write-in candidate John Albert Dummett Jr., Markham Robinson of the American Independent Party of California and others. Robinson was among those who claimed in 2009 Obama was ineligible to be president.

Nice to see that Fark Independents have moved beyond the silo of the internet.

well at least the conspiracy theorist (birthers, truthers, etc) are persistent in their stupidity.

Also, of course they are trying to knock out California. Without the votes from CA, Obama would have an incredibly difficult (if not impossible) path to victory.

Read the article. Apparently it isn't just a right wing thing because they are also questioning Romney's eligibility.

I don't remember that from the 08 primaries, could someone expand on this? Any chance this was an attempt to see how many rightwingers would buy this and thus this "controversy" is working precisely as designed?

No, they should be arrested and indefinitely detained as illegal immigrants, spending the rest of their derpy lives trying to prove otherwise.

I had a family member, who is a devout birther, angry the other day over Obama's citizenship and Romney's. He sees no reason to look a little deeper into anything about Romney, he couldn't even be bothered to give lip service to avoid looking like a hypocrital douche. He prattled on about a dead person's SS# or something. I asked him 'So you think we should look even more into the President's (I like emphasizing the word president to him) citizenship legality but a guy born in Mexico to a guy born Mexico who's original family members fled because bigamy was against federal law here has no need to show you anything else?' He say "Nope." I don't get it. At least pretend you aren't a racist douchebag!

A good example of a "be careful what you wish for" in politics. Be careful with your attack ads, because you may be working for the guy you're currently attacking in the future. Perhaps the near future.

Then you have to deal with your own shiat.

A birther debate over McCain would have been better. The status of Pamama was sort of questionable in 36. Pretty good NYT article on the matter. (new window)

2012-03-22 02:10:43 PM
I was on a conservative blog earlier today and they were already gearing up to fight Rubio as a VP pick, because he is not a "Natural Born Citizen" (Because his parents were not American citizens at the time of his birth, which I guess is the current arguement for why Obama can't be President).

Progress.

At least more and more birthers are dropping the "I'm not a racist" pretense.

I think those minor hangers on that thought the president should just release a birth certificate and be done with it dropped out after he released it, so there were no more relatively moderate(albeit confused) birthers to hide behind.

I can't wait to see what the birthers come up with when Obama is reelected. Cause let's face it: the two dickwagons the GOP is trying to throw into the ring aren't going to beat him.

I'm a moderate, but there is no way in hell I'd ever vote for a candidate that thinks women are second-class citizens and that I'm a whore for using birth control.

Just make sure you get out and vote for Obama then.

We have a whole lot of people saying they will never vote for the GOP candidate, but I haven't seen a whole lot of people stating they are making sure they vote this year. Perhaps it is one of those things that goes without saying.

Yeah, but that had already come up when McCain ran in 2000, and in the public's eyes was a settled issue by 2008.

Well, they used to sit under bare bulbs in dingy apartments writing angry letters to the editor, but now that the papers are all shutting down they've had to move on to something new.

I think the best possible outcome of this is that the California secretary of state vouches for Obama, but manages to disqualify Romney, because of the demands of the birthers.

Imagine the hilarity.

I want to start a group that sues people who file frivolous lawsuits against the government. I think it shouldn't be too hard to demonstrate the tax dollars and time spent on those people is harmful to us all.

Well, yeah. But it's getting to the point now that I just loathe election season and I farking hate politics anyway, but I feel like it's my moral obligation to vote. I always tell my husband that he's not allowed to biatch about what the president or our governor does because he didn't vote.

With all due respect: WTF did they get that definition of "Natural Born Citizen" ?

I am aware the term was used in the Constitution under eligibility for the office of the Presidency, but am unaware of it's definition elsewhere in any historical documents.

Will someone please provide a definition (and a valid citation)?

Guns are heavy and Hoverounds have maximum weight capacities. I predict more vaguely ominous but not quite directly threatening signs, some of which will be misspelled and or misinfromed, and some of which will be mildly racist (and some very), followed by political obstructionism and temper-tantrums. It will finally begin to end with a Fox News pronouncement on March 1, 2013, calling Obama a 'lame-duck' president but go on for several years at an agonizing pace drawn out by the media on both sides.
