So how long until somebody animates this into the cross taking off and flying into a building?

Over/under on it already having been done.

I don't see what people find offensive. Tebow is an asshole religious zealot who wants to turn the entire world into Christians and nothing but Christians. Anything that pokes fun at that is fine in my book.

don't know who this Darren Rovell is, but he's going to h-e-double hockey sticks

Darren Rovell is a moron.

I find that mildly delightful.

This is going to end up like Larry Johnson, isn't it?

So you freely admit you know nothing about Tim Tebow

I get that feeling, I really do.

But, the rabbleing that will ensue is choice of humor. Had he put a crucifix up and ALSO changed the "S" to Tebow...Tebowing, then I think there wouldn't be a problem. But b/c it's solely the most iconic Christian figure (though I've always loved Bill Hicks's take on the crucifix), then the Christians will scream bloody murder.

He's an evangelical missionary. That's what evangelical missionaries do.

The only person who brings up Tebow's Christian faith more than Tebow, is everyone else.

Let the dumb kid play some football. The world will corrupt him soon enough.

it is offensive and crude, but no less so than the "Redskins" name. oh the sports hypocrisy. everyone flipped the fark out of the Jeremy Lin "chink in the armor" story, then the same weekend the NFL has its combine and not a word is said about "Redskins".

darren rovell knows better but what are you gonna do.

People feel uncomfortable when they see somebody who appears to be living a life with a higher moral standard than their own, so they tend to hate those people.

I don't like Tebow, but he seems like a really good guy, so no reason to hate.

2012-03-22 11:35:13 AM
how the fark is this offensive?

he's religious. that's the joke. it's a shiatty joke, but if you're offended you're literally brain-damaged. sadly, the fact that "american hardcore christian" happens to go hand in hand with that notwithstanding...

2012-03-22 11:35:49 AM
not sure why I left the word "sadly" in there...

Darren Rovell does dumb shiat on Twitter sometimes but it's harmless. Pretty funny how he's the latest person for Deadspin to go after like any of what he's done is some huge deal.

If a logo had been transformed using some semblance of the Muslim faith there would be mass riots in the the middle East. Oh wait...

He can be downright moronic sometimes, but he posts (forwards/retweets) neat stats, so that's why I follow him.

I don't hate the guy, but I do hate how forceful he is with the religion stuff. I can understand someone thanking god or pointing to the sky for a second after a touchdown but Tebow takes it to a new level. It's not all his fault since the cameras are always looking for him to do something. But at the same time, isn't there something in the Bible saying you should worship indoors instead of out in the center of town so everyone can see how religious you are? And all for a QB who can't complete more than 50% of his passes.

I disagree. This is quite ingenious and funny to boot.

Wrong. Being an evenagelical missionary is evidence of a lower moral standard. The need to bend others to your will? The emptiness inside of you that can't tolerate differences in others, a drive to make everyone just like you? The destruction of other cultures out of your own fear or lack of understanding of them? Eff all missionaries.

And you'd have to be pretty stupid to be "uncomfortable" for assuming someone was a better person than you...but, then, you'd have to be pretty stupid to thank the Sky Ghosts every time your hard work and skill paid off on its own, when you got something you worked so hard for. And in a world where billions of innocents live in relative misery, you'd have to be pretty stupid to look to the Sky Ghosts at all, and pretty arrogant to think they'd give a fark about you.

Also, he's a shiat football player. If he weren't both uber-Christian and white, people wouldn't be talking about him and he probably wouldn't even be in the NFL right now. Compare his glaring inability to a guy like Cam Newton and wonder why we don't talk about Newton every day. All he did was take his horrible hype and have probably the greatest rookie season of anyone at any position. But then, he's a regular guy, and a shade of brown, so unless he did bad things, sorry, no media for you.

I dunno, given his college success, Tebow would've at least been given a shot in NFL even if he was black atheist from Guatamala. Undoubtedly his most rabid fans are fans not because of his QB abilities--which are modest at best by NFL standards--but rather because he's a Jeebus-freak like them. But having said that, Tebow made the most of the shot he was given because he is a very hard-working and highly motivated QB, and he has enjoyed success far in excess of what one would expect of him given his limited physical abilities, and on that ground he probably deserves a good percentage of the attention he's been given. It's too bad he doesn't take the credit for it that he deserves, though, rather than using his success as a tool to stump for the invisible sky wizard by giving him all the credit.

Dammit, I hate white knighting for goddamn Tebow, of all people.

He's a corporate shill masquerading as an MSNBC journalist.

Bring up the term "Nike" to him and he'll start stroking it right then and there.

Exactly. There are people who generally want to help the poor. And then there are people who want to help the poor, but only if they join their cult.

Thing is, I completely agree with you. He's pushed himself to his absolute limits, phyiscally and mentally, and has shown that he's almost good enough to be a pro QB. And that's a pretty amazing accomplishment, since there are only like 20 guys alive that are any good at being a pro NFL QB.

But I don't think there's any reason to credit a mystical creature for the stuff he earned.
