My dad took me to the original when it first came out. I was 10 years-old. Really a fun movie. Dad was embarrassed about all the swearing, mostly Bobby D. That movie, without swearing, is about 45 seconds long.

I have good memories of that movie. It was a father son bonding thing.

Hollywood... Why are you raping my childhood?

At first, I thought it was an odd selection for a remake of a movie about a guy who tried to smuggle hash out of Turkey.

It's not a remake, it's a sequel.

Charles Grodin is almost 80

Robert De Niro is 69

This is going to be one slow action film.

Godammit.

Look, I know Hollywood Is Out Of Ideas™, but remake movies that are broken. Midnight Run doesn't need to be fixed.

Okay, here's a start: remake Bonfire of the Vanities. Make it good.

I'm okay with this.

Tower Heist was an okay movie.

Already been done. (new window)
Well, sort of. TV movie. With different actors. Christopher MacDonald as Jack Walsh... Ugh.
And it sucked as I remember.

I've been telling anyone that will listen for the last few years that the movie is a classic.

StopLurkListen: waste no time. Rent or stream ASAP.

I would be angry about the remake, then I realized that I wouldn't pay theater prices to go see it, so I don't really care. Hell, I won't even download it. I'd wait until it's playing on cable and then half-watch it while doing something else.

Either I'm aging or Hollywood is in a slump. And I think it's more of the latter.

He's not even a bounty hunter anymore, He bought a coffee shop. Of course as with most of these sequels something will happen in the first 5 minutes to fark it all up like the shop will burn down and he'll have to go back to bounty hunting. But he hated the job when he was in his 40s. It'd be pretty depressing if he's still doing it at 70.

Not to mention the fact that he probably has a reputation for taking bribes. He let Grodin go and THEN Grodin gave him the money but that's not what it would look like to anyone else. Who would hire him?

At first thought, ugh, not Breet Rattner....

then I saw the writers would be the same guys who write GI joe Rise of Cobra and felt a lot better about it because that movie was funny as all get out. I mean that was intentional right?

It's funny, I was just watching Supernatural and it's a running joke that they always give pop culture references when they introduce themselves as FBI. Today it was Agent Alonzo Mosely.

Are you familiar with a dish - a potato dish - uh, Lyonnaise Potatoes? It's a kind of a fried potato, but it's got like onion in it. It's quite delicious. It really goes beautifully with steak, uh, chops, uh, you know, hamburger, cheesburger - any of your meat dishes.

Seriously, I'd rather see the next thing that George Lucas makes.
