GOALIE MASK THREAD!

First off, while I appreciate the CoC protecting their intellectual property, one would think that Bernier's use of it would either constitute fair use, or at the very least free marketing. If I were him, I'd consider telling them to go fark themselves.

I'm in. As a child of the '70's though, I'm partial to the classics:

And of course, no goalie mask conversation is complete without linking to Jacques Plante, The Mask. (new window)

I have to admit he's actually a good goalie. Hollywood is worried that their city might get associated with the concepts of "good" and/or "quality," and that frightens them.

As a child of the 70's also, I remember being about 7years old and seeing an awesome mask with fire coming from the eyes and mouth. It was Dan Bouchard and that was my first day as a Flames fan.

Todays masks are cool but there's a lost art in the 70's masks.

While trying to find an old LA King pic who had King Tut on his helm, I saw that one of the old LA Kings goalies, Gary Edwards, was disciple of the Chaos Gods.

I actually still have his rookie card. It surprisingly did not turn into some great investment.

I'm a big fan of Jonathan Quick's 3rd jersey mask that pays homage to Rogie Vachon.

I'm dumb. Storr had the samurai mask and it was Stephane Fiset who wore the King Tut mask.

I do not have his rookie card.

Christine Sovich of Global Icons (the agency representing the trust that oversees the Hollywood sign) said Bernier can keep his mask: "we appoligze for the inconvenience"

Something tells me Ms. Sovich will be looking for a new job soon. Or should be.

/seriously? Your official spokesperson can't spell?

And speaking of vintage masks:

I'm surprised Tim Thomas' mask doesn't have "WHAR BIRF CERTIFICAT WHAR??" painted on it.

Yeah, I had his card too. Storr didn't pan out.

And I think Jon Quick's pads that go with Vachon's mask for retro nights are even more epic (brown leather look).

I loves me some hockey, and I loves me some goalie masks, but in the world of sports related head gear protection, nothing beats Valentino Rossi's helmet.

That reminds me, I think it was Roman Cechmanik(spelled wrong, no doubt) that had a zombie face mask.
