Is that about 20 million dollars worth of oops? Looked like tons of fun before they bricked it though.

"You think insurance is gonna cover this?"

The pilot has probably done that plenty of times...

...at a much lower density altitude. Jeez, guys, if you are going to hot dog at least have all of your shiat together.

Well, now I know where my tax dollars are going.

2012-03-21 05:24:13 PM
Nice work, you tools. So glad to see that my tax dollars are not only being spent so that you can play "Top Gun" in a multi-million-dollar war machine, but so that when you kiss sand in it for no reason, the entire base has to scramble to pull your moronic ass from the busted wreckage.

Seriously. If they're that bored? If they have enough time to not only joy-ride in a $20 million helicopter, but film each other crashing it besides? Maybe we oughta be using the Apaches we still have left to drop them off at the airport and put them on a plane home.

I bet the next chopper that guy pilots will be in a mess tent

I assume this is essential military spending.

Jump on it. Jump on it.

In the old days you could cover crap like this up. Now, it's splattered all over the net. Stick a fork in him, because that pilot is done.

I wasn't too impressed with its maneuverability until after it hit the ground. Then it was a nimble little minx.

2012-03-21 06:22:39 PM

MaxxLarge: Seriously. If they're that bored?

The maneuvers being performed are all well within the aircaft's flight envelope. Those same maneuvers are a part of the combat training, so it's not the maneuvers, it's the lack of planning to perform those maneuvers at a high altitude.

And that's snow, not sand.

Important safety tip: Don't do that.

2012-03-21 07:08:14 PM
First rule of helicoptering - don't fly toward the ground at high speed.

Aren't you all glad you paid income taxes this year?

Take your income taxes paid and then assume that everyone commenting here has paid around about the same in income taxes. Add it all up. It is still dwarfed by this accident caused by horseplay with a helicopter.

One smart bomb dropped is more than the amount of federal income taxes that I have paid in my entire life (which I estimate to be about $50,000).

The pilot.

Not necessarily horseplay. The initial low pass may have been due to mechanical issues which only appeared when the pilot was preparing to land. Or the pilot was buzzing the area to clear bystanders from the landing zone. Or the pilot was doing an initial pass to blast away loose and drifting snow that would interfere with the landing. Or the pilot was flying low so people on the ground could inspect the fuselage for damage and fluid leaks.

Or at least that's what the pilot is probably saying right now.

At 25 seconds take a look at the tail almost crushing a soldier as he bounces off the ground.

/bring em back, they're killing civilians and joyriding choppers
//why are we still there again?

And politicians won't even bat an eye. You want to see wasteful spending? Nothing shows it better than $20mil in the form of a heap of smashed metal.

I don't measure freedom in dollars, preventing another nine eleven times 2,356 is just worth it to me

That's right. We haven't had another terrorist attack since 9/11, so they must be doing something right. We also haven't had any alien invasions or meteor strikes in the past 11 years either, so all those soldiers must be saving us from that too.

I have a couple of buddies who were in the military.

Except for the whole risking your life getting shot at part, they have 2000 stories about themselves wrecking everything they get thier hands on.

I just laugh at the stories and shake my head after. Otherwise I start feeling libertariany.

The only thing that guy is going to fly now is desk.
Looked well below the 21'000 ft op ceiling and cold winter air (very dense, good for flying) Put this down to 100% dumbassery.

Does anybody know if those on board survived?

Are the any experienced military helicopter pilots out there who can explain what really happened??????

I have doubts about the survival of those on board. That was a wicked flip at the end.

That was so fake. If it was real, there would have been an explosion with a visible shockwave that would have flattened the flimsy wooden structures around. Its just Physics 101

They're facing charges. So yes.

Not a pilot, but I think the technical term is: "He farked up".
