There are a shiatload of Canadians (including my Father-in-law) buying up cheap property in Arizona and wintering there. Incredible country-side and landscape but the fact that they can always come home to sanity whenever you want must be comforting. You can have a level of detachment from the craziness. Like being on a Safari watching the a lion bring down an antelope but knowing that you can go back to the 4 star hotel whenever you've had enough.

If it's about protecting "life", then she would also have no quarrels with making every person looking to obtain a gun to watch a video of a child getting shot, or at least a video of a child (while alive) that was killed unintentionally by guns, correct?

Seeing how 138 children died from unintentional shootings in 2007 alone, and in 2008 about 4000 injured persons 0-19 from firearms....it's about protecting "life", correct?

Private_Citizen: Wow. I see the GOP plan to piss off and alienate everyone but the angry white male vote is still in full swing.

You're forgetting married, very religious women with multiple kids... for that group they're inspiring a whole new era of state-sanctioned slut shaming and judgment of other women. Notice that no one is talking about strengthening enforcement of child support, paternal ID, or easing the path to adoption. MRS-degree holders that are so inclined can now look down even harder on single women that have fun, easily identified by their unadorned left hand and diaper bag.

The ones posting all this "protect religious freedom" and "stop abortion now" material on my facebook are married-with-kids women that love Jim DeMint and Rick Santorum.

ManateeGag: Now for my serious comment: Are these idiots working on the assumption that everyone who is getting an abortion is just a slut who can't keep her legs shut? What about little suzie who was raped by uncle steve at the family reunion or the women who are making a difficult choice so their baby doesn't live a life of complete suffering from birth to death. But is this a case of "screw them, they shouldn't be such whores"?

What gets me is that if I HAD had a child instead of abortion, I'd be one of those useless, godless, american-way-of-life destroying single moms who just kept on popping out babbies. I would be held out as a poster-child for irresponsibility.

Since I had an abortion, I;m just a slut - much less of a drain on society.

Diogenes: FeedTheCollapse: I do think the incest/rape argument is a bit odd as well. I don't doubt that those are reasons why some abortions are carried out, nor do I think it is our business as to why a woman would request one, but it does sound like its using a worst-case scenario as a justification. There's probably better ways to position an argument.

First, as I said, the violation I refer to is the ultrasound, or otherwise forcing a woman to submit to browbeating and dissuasion.

Secondly, you use the extreme cases as a means of highlighting the inherent flaws in the concept, or in this case, the legislation.

I definitely disagree with the ultrasounds, dissuasion tactics, etc. But I don't agree with solely framing abortion around rape/incest cases as it comes off to me as hand-waving away rape/incest instances (or sounding as if rape/incest is even more abnormally prevalent). The Rape/incest argument would probably better used to complement the "still born pregnancies, mother's life is at risk, etc." argument; with the latter taking to precedence to your argument. I take issue more with how the argument is delivered than the actual argument itself. On its own, the rape/incest argument distracts from the greater whole, IMO.

The only problem here is that the only people that respond with anything other than absolute revulsion to this sort of insanity are the insane people. You can't reason with these lunatics.

This type of commentary is so openly hostile and revoltingly wrong-headed that it's plain to anybody with any sense of decency and any capacity for rational thought that it's wrong and disgusting. But at least a quarter of this country has no sense of decency anymore and is, apparently, completely immune to reason.

You just can't reason a person out of self-enforced insanity and those crazies are the people that are now running one of only two viable political parties in the United States. The only real hope is to spread this sort of lunacy as far and wide as possible and encourage the roughly 2/3 to 3/4 of this country that aren't completely batshiat insane to go to the polls and decisively crush these lunatics once and for all.

We need one good, sweeping, and absolutely crushing wave of anti-crazy votes to finally send the message home to the GOP that they need to shut down these creeps and stop trying to force their Taliban-like craziness into the law.

But for that to happen, the non-insane majority actually needs to go vote.

And so what if they are, anyway? Whose business is it of ours if they want one abortion per month, at that?

This country could use a bit more slut acceptance.

2012-03-21 11:19:25 AM
We need to have more rules like this. I'm not saying all women are sluts, or that there are no times when it might be necessary to kill a baby, but really, most women just use abortions as secondary birth control, for when they forgot to bring condoms over to the apartment of their boyfriend of the week.

I think it's disgusting that women can willing go through with this procedure without any sort of thought or contemplation. I know Planned Parenthood isn't an abortion assembly line, but it's close and I'm sure they'd do it if they could. Pull the lever, turn the crank, press the button, BOOM, dead baby.

Some people claim the men are part of the process, and that's an understandable concern. However, biologically speaking, men are lustful creatures. God intended us to be fruitful. You're right, we should crack down on all the premarital sex. There's two easy ways to do it--one is to make it illegal to have premarital sex. Period. Any woman or man spending the night at a "friend's" residence (or sharing a hotel etc) should go to jail for a month, no trial, same procedure as a parking ticket. BAM, you'd cut down on it pretty quick. Prohibition and the War on Drugs has shown time and time again, the best way to reduce the quantity of a vice is to make it illegal. Oh, and no more birth control at all. Period.

Second, we need to stop women from being allowed to dress like tarted up prostitutes all the time. If you really look at bathing suits and most modern fashion, it's like women want to have abortions. They're begging to get pregnant. We need laws that force women to cover up more, hide their forms from men, maybe their faces too. They'd save on make-up, so that one should pass pretty easily.

Look, it's God's law. It should be our law. I don't understand why liberals are so against the natural order. You'd think they'd know better by now.

2012-03-21 11:19:41 AM
If they did make a video of that, Michael Bay should produce it. The moment the fetus comes out the woman explodes.
