You aren't missing much, the `high' is basically just oxygen deprivation, you could hold your breath and get the same. I did it a few times as a teenager, growing up in a small town you tend to get bored. I know someone who did it chronically and well, he's in worse shape than any burned out pothead, alcoholic or even crackhead I've ever seen. You look into his eyes and it's like he's not even there. Bad stuff, that. Would not recommend.

I just don't get it. There's plenty of decent legal and illegal drugs to choose from. Why does anyone turn to paint.

As a non huffer I wonder why he doesn't just use clear to avoid th tell tale signs of huffing. Also, why is he arrested for this?
I learn so much here.

Yeah. The meme was funny the first couple of times around. Now I can't help but feel for the poor bloke. At this point, it's not really funny anymore, just tragic.

As a non-huffer it's my understanding that the metallic paints are the ones these fools prefer. I do not know why. Perhaps it's a better high than huffing Dutch Boy.

Huffing paint is illegal, but why is he getting caught is the better question. He should just go to his bedroom, lock the door, and have at it like a normal person.

That would be possible if he could buy the paint.

I've missed quite a bit of this story - is he banned from buying paint? This must have fried his brain.
I was just joking with Mr.S. about getting a twitchy jones when going into Home Depot and the like, but it's not really funny.

With the swiss cheese of dead tissue his brain must be at this time, I can't imagine him ever being in a self sufficient, functional, contributing place again.

He's almost definitely legally disabled at this point due to brain damage. Sad, really. The best he can do with his life now is be a cautionary tale to others.

One night at an open Al-Anon meeting, I met a woman who was in AA and OA (Overeaters Anonymous). She had gotten sober after 20 years, and while going through her detox it was suggested she have an ice cream sundae when she was having a strong urge to drink. After a year of sobriety, she also weighed in at 200lbs (she was 5'4"). So with OA she ends up regaining "sobriety" around food (for anyone who nay-says food addiction, google is your friend).

So she takes up smoking.

For every story you hear of hope for people who get sober/clean, there's at least as many if not more of people who either never really do, or get clean only to fall back into addiction. It's the most heart breaking experience to watch or be a part of.

Oh, last I saw of that women, she was essentially on death's door, having gone the opposite way with food. She was all of like 95lbs and losing teeth.

Metallic paints have more solvent in them.

It's the solvent that gets you high/eats your braincells like a bowl of Cheerios.

I believe some people have what I call for lack of a better term "addicitive personalities". If they're not addicted to alcohol it's meth or jeebus or collecting stray cats. The best you can hope for is that at some point they develop an addiction to something relatively harmless.

He's not even a terrible looking guy. Rewind a few years before the brain rot took hold, put him in a suit, and you'd take him for an exec of any sort of company.

What a waste.

I knew a guy who could only be described as having an "addictive personality". He would swing like a pendulum. For a few months he was a druggie to the fullest degree. A few months later He was a clean fundie Christian. A few months after that, druggie again. He went on like that for years. I think he still is. He's trapped in a viscious cycle. He can't do anything by halfs and thus has no balance in his life, always in turmoil.

I saw an episode of Cops in which the po-po were rousting a homeless encampment where huffers liked to go and huff. One guy denied that he huffed had ever paint (while covered in silver paint). The police offer made some comment about silver paint, and the huffer immediately piped up that silver was the best. Pitiful.

While I was in a local paint store, a sketchy-looking character came in, walked over to the cans of solvent, and started opening them to smell them. He then complained to the management about their "new" brand of toulene, asking them to bring back the previous one, which had been his personal favorite.

Yeah, I remember when that was posted on FARK for the first time. It seemed like all Farkers were so hopeful for his recovery, and some even swore off using his (in)famous mug shot in photoshop contests. It was probably 6 months to a year after that when there was a followup that he had fallen off the wagon. It was sad then, and it's still sad now. At this point I think his life is going to be kind of a loss----I jut don't see him overcoming addictions (in general, whether it is paint or something stronger) at this point.

You know what? As an agnostic atheist (not sure which god it is I don't believe in), personally I don't care if a person takes up Jesus Freaking if it means they stay clean and don't harm anyone. Hell, I don't care if it's Scientology.
