(Crooks & Liars)   Old woman hurts herself in a fall. Refuses treatment because "I don't want Obamacare to get all of my information" & "I don't want any of my money going to the Muslim Brotherhood". Guess what happened to her?   (crooksandliars.com) divider line 306

Holy carp, this isn't an Onion-like story. For the love of FSM, this needs a green for the sheer lulz factor alone.

Don't write this woman off as some ignorant back-country hick. She clearly wasn't. She owned a company at one time. She paid attention to events and politics in the news, or at least, in the news as she understood it. She, like most of her neighbors, voted Republican. But until Fox News came along, Republicans weren't stupid. They had different philosophies about government and its role, but they weren't blatantly invested in advancing a lie-based ideology until Fox News came along.

That is exactly what I am writing her off as. If she believed Fox News and couldn't ferret out the truth from that ridiculous propaganda bullshiat, then it really is her own fault. Fox News contributed I suppose, but they are not to blame.

I developed this point of view at the Cave at Emptor.

Who needs death panels when you have fox news killing off the elderly?

2012-03-20 04:00:21 PM
I know this personally. FOX News killed my precious mother, Hallie. She watched FOX religiously. And when she fell ten days before she died, she refused to go to the doctor because, "I don't want Obamacare to get all of my information! she declared, recalling the warnings from FOX News "anchors." She was emphatic. She was not going to consort with the muslim enemy. As she made out her will she told her lawyer, "I don't want any of my money going to the Muslim Brotherhood!" And her last protestation dealt with "Obama's death panels." Mother died just days later. I hold FOX News responsible for my mother's death.

Just in case anyone wasn't going to click the link (rare, I know).

Frankly, I hope this goes viral. I hope it fills up FB walls, gets mentioned on the evening news, and (to quote Michael Cole), "trends worldwide!!" on Twitter.

Or, you could just be really, really dishonest. That's a huge Fox demographic.

A bit late in life for a Darwin award nomination; it's her daughter complaining about Fox News, so she did pass on her genes. Still, might be honorable mention territory?

I dunno man...some of the stuff the GOP has been saying/doing lately is pretty extreme. some of their hardcore followers might actually believe a lot of the propaganda, even to the point of causing their own (entirely preventable) deaths.

This only shows that people with a shallow grasp of reality should be kept away from Fox news.

2012-03-20 05:39:44 PM
I'm not a fan of Fox by any means, but I can't really blame them for someone's death. We all bring our own baggage to the media we consume, and it effects all of us a little differently. Fox is no more at fault for this woman's death than Doom is responsible for Columbine.

For example, if she was really that out of it and paranoid, they could have restrained her as being not lucid enough to make her own decisions and treated her on the daughters' orders. We also don't know (from this link) that treatment could have even saved her or what exactly she died from.

2012-03-20 05:41:36 PM
Also, the link keeps referencing the fact that she owned and ran a company as evidence that she wasn't some idiot. Have you met many CEOs? Many of them are farking retards. This post 1) doesn't tell us enough and 2) originated on Facebook, so you'll have to pardon me being skeptical that it's real.

/Gods, I'm posting in a forum defending Fox news. Where did I go wrong in my life?

Well, at the very least a woman named Hallie Krauss did die and had a daughter named Tracy and described herself as a dyed-in-the-wool Republican. So even thought his story appears to be true, I'm still willing to say Fox killed an old lady. It sounds like she was out of her gourd. If it wasn't Fox and Obamacare, it would have been aliens or bigfoot or Jesus-will-save-me.

I don't there's anything here to 'spin'. sounds like the old woman made a very poor decision based on lies and propaganda and it killed her. it might have been an isolated incident, could have been something that happens more often than we know. But really - so what? I'm sure it's devastating for someone to lose a parent or grandparent to dumb decisions they've made (or are currently making)...but its their choice to make.

Pretty much.

But you do sense somebody is trying to let a lawyer convince them to take this to court, somewhere.

We used to be able to have people like this committed for their own safety. Now they control a whole political party. If she'd survived, she would probably be on someone's VP shortlist.

then you'd lose. Fox news is vile and reprehensible...but lying to people during news reports isn't againt the law.
