well, tax cuts AND a destruction of the social safety net.

Awesome, they're doubling down on the Ryan plan.

Good, give the money back to the people so that it can be used to get the country back on it's feet.

No. I'm not saying it's aliens, but they'll be for ancient illegal aliens.

When all you have is a hammer in your tool box...

So, essentially it's the same economic plan the GOP has been pushing for decades: fark the poor.

2012-03-20 03:02:16 PM
Ryan promised the tax reforms would be "revenue neutral."

So... that just means he's shifting who pays how much.

Hm. Wonder who would be paying less and who would be paying more.

2012-03-20 03:06:05 PM
Also likely to generate opposition are plans to to dramatically cut other safety net programs, including food stamps and Medicaid, both of which would be converted to block grant programs that would be run at the discretion of individual states.

It's just mind-boggling how Republicans think that this is a good idea.

How stupid do you have to be to believe that every single problem has the exact same answer?

an answer that has never worked in the history of the united states. whereas the opposite - increased taxes on the wealthy and increased infrastructure and social spending - resulted in one of the great economic booms of all time.

When you refuse to consider all tools but the hammer in your toolbox every problem looks like a nail.

With a maximum personal tax rate of 25% and a new corporate tax rate of 25%, the answer is: rich people and corporations. Surprise!

You are aware that you, personally, will have to pay a lot more and get a lot less under the Ryan plan, and that the only people who will be better off under the Ryan plan are the top 2% of income earners, right?

2012-03-20 03:21:30 PM
THIS TIME the rich will reinvest the money saved in job creation, not just throw it on the pile and then outsource! Double pinky swear with Reagan on top!

That doesn't fit the Fox News narrative -- therefore does not compute.

He doesn't care. The Ryan plan could say it is raising taxes on all but the poorest poor and helps everyone with full health care, and he'd support it.

Remember- it isn't what they do. It is what they do.

AND ... the Democrats don't control the House. So they don't control the writing of the budget. Which is why Ryan's budget has been laughed at 2 years in a row.

People that say stuff like that have never been good at facts.

2012-03-20 04:47:13 PM
Ryan also argued that although the Congressional Budget Office did not conclude that his plan would balance the federal budget soon, it actually would because his tax cuts would spur the economy.

Citation of any time in American history that this has been the case?

Sweet, they're taking away the bread (literally this time) but doubling down on the derp circus.

From twitter:

@Tax Policy Center :
Ryan's target is "18 to 19" percent. So he would need to find $7 trill over 10 years to hit 19%.

Maybe that toothless food stamp recipient interviewed in Mississippi will finally stop voting Republican since it has never worked out for him, and now they are taking away the food stamps he is entitled too.

It doesn't matter. Proving idiots like this wrong makes them believe even harder in their incorrect opinion. It's a sad but true fact of human psychology: when you haven't formed an opinion based on facts, facts will not sway your opinion.

Good, about time we had some fiscal responsibility in DC to counter the reckless abandon of SpendBama.

2012-03-20 05:03:15 PM
Yaknow it probably isn't a great idea.

But damn I'd love me some 25% tax given what I pay every year. Being stuck in the 'richer than most' but not in the 'living off investment income' crowd is a tax level of hell. Really though just a more straight forward system and I'd be all for it. To many deductions, credits, etc etc to juggle.

2012-03-20 05:03:29 PM
If there's one way to scare the elderly, angry white folks who are the core of Republican support, it's to start sharpening axes with an eye on Medicare. And it's not the good type of scare, like when you tell them the threatening black man will force them to have gay abortions.

Please prove to me a scenario where you ever pay an overall "25%" tax to the federal government ... you are a liar, and I'm calling you out on it.

You'd probably just spend it on trivial things like food and electricity. Maybe better we hold on to it for you.

OMG! Doesn't the GOP understand that gubmint can spend our money for us better than we can spend it for ourselves?

What next, allowing the people to vote?

The economy is already on the upswing, so the GOP can claim that even the promises of tax cuts helped spur investment and growth.

GOP takes credit, and if anyone disagrees they'll shut down the govt or trash our credit rating again.

2012-03-20 05:06:47 PM
Republicans are great negotiators. First they find an issue on which their opponent must deal with them on, then they take an impossibly extreme position, then they come to the middle ground, then they change their mind and revert to an even more extreme position, and then the process starts all over again. Forever

You're not really serious, are you? I can probably pull up 25 clients right now that have an effective Federal rate above 25%. That's without doing a minute of research. Give me two hours, and I could probably pull close to a 100.

In the US in 2011, a taxable income of around $190K would result in a effect tax rate of 25%. Somebody making more than that will benefit from this stupid plan.
