Glad to see him getting another shot. The Jags were idiots for getting rid of him.

netweavr: moefuggenbrew: Everyone keeps saying phins need a QB. They started the season 0-7 with the HenneBum. Then, when a half com potent QB (Moore) got the ball they went 6-3.

The coaching staff obviously hates Moore. He's getting a raw deal like Tebow.

Tebow completed 46.5% of his passes last season. I'm sorry, but if you want to play QB you need to be able to actually throw the ball. Being replaced by a future HOF QB when half of your passes are incomplete is hardly a raw deal.

Not sure I understand your argument. According to that premise everyone is right, and if they actually had an entirely competent QB they would be Superbowl contenders.

The Dolphins still have Devlin, the best QB out of the FCS in the past couple years. Once he develops a bit as a NFL player he can be the future for the team, they just need someone to carry over for a couple years.

Quiefenburger: Dude played in Jacksonville, a town that has more games blacked out than not.

Well, that just not true. We didn't have a single game blacked out last year and only 1 the year before. We have had some problems but for the most part everything has been good. It's Tampa and Miami that's been blacked out.

I realize the Jags suck to most everybody but don't make them seem any worse than they are. And they're not nearly in as bad a shape as the Fins.

Quiefenburger: rudemix: Evilsmurf: rudemix: This could be one of the better QB signings this off-season. This is not a compliment to the team or player.

Honestly Garrard is not a bad quarterback and he's likely going to come extremely cheap. If I was GM of a QB needy team he might have in fact been my choice over Manning (go with a pretty good QB and good complimentary pieces rather than shelling out the $ for Manning and therefore not being able to afford any other pieces).

I agree and that comment really was following on the heels of the Leinhart to Oakland article I had read right before. I think I should have phrased it in a way saying 'this is not a compliment to Garrard/Miami as much as it's a huge knock towards Oakland'. I can't recall a lot of bad things ever being said about Garrard, and I think he's a solid bet for Miami right now for a team needing some consistency at QB even if, or maybe especially if, they can't land a future rock solid QB to build with.

The reason you can't recall bad things being said about him is because no one was paying attention. Dude played in Jacksonville, a town that has more games blacked out than not. Anyways, not a chance in hell he beats out Moore for the starting job. The guy is 35 years old and coming off major back surgery. Even in him prime he was a bottom 1/3 of the league starter. I'd be shocked if he cracks the roster after training camp.

If he does stick, we basically traded Henne for Garrard, which is farking retarded. This is just another pathetic example of Jeff Ireland taking the easy, no risk route and his boss being too clueless to say anything otherwise. And I'm sure the moment he does decide to stick his neck out, it will be to take a 2nd or 3rd round talent like Tannehill with the #8 pick. Yay. I swear this front office is happy with 6 and 7 win seasons.

The rub of all these stupid offseason moves is that the 2012 non-division schedule is ridiculously soft. So they will in all likelihood win 6 or 7 games and elimin ...

The Jags have not had a single blackout since 2009. Living here sucks enough without people making things up about my already shiatty NFL team.

Correct me if I'm wrong, and I may be wrong on this, but aren't a lot of games not blacked out because ownership bought tickets to prevent that from happening?

2012-03-21 01:36:11 AM
The majority of the bought out tickets are from local businesses and the like. I remember a couple years ago Publix bought several hundred season tickets and had give-aways every week. But yeah, we only keep from being blacked out by alot of business charity and some owner-bought seats. Still, at least we are not Tampa Bay.

I can't think of any team that's in as bad a shape as Miami. Especially if you take the last 10 years or so into account.

He can still help Jacksonville move to LA. So he has that going for him. Which is nice.

Browns, Raiders, Bills etc. are worse off. Not that things are great, but the fins won the AFC East in 2009. They were pretty good before Ricky decided to retire. The defense was 3rd against the run and 5th in points allowed last year.

Ireland is an ass, but he actually has been successful in the draft which no other GM in the past 10 years has been. He whiffed on the QB position for 4 years and he is taking a beating in the south Florida press for it.

I forgot about the Browns. Yeah, they're probably worse off than Miami. The Bills and Raiders showed signs of improvement last season though, which is more than you can say for the fins.

Oh, and it was 2008 when the Dolphins won the division, that was the year Brady was out with a knee injury.

I'm pretty sure it's the owners that save you more than local business. If the game isn't sold out at the 72 hr mark leading up to the game the owners get to buy the remaining tickers for 34 cents on the dollar, then they keep on selling up to the game. Glazers had done that in Tampa a handful of times (as have a number of other owners around the league every year but generally don't announce it) heading into 2010 but decided they would no longer continue doing so. Yet another cost cutting measure they had implemented, along with not paying free agents (most people blaming their loans for Man U being behind their frugal measures). Since the Glazers are obviously willing to spend money on free agents this year, will be interested to see if they will be willing to pony up for any home games that don't sell out.

Since this has turned into a "blackout" thread -- is there any rule in sports that makes less since than the NFL's blackout rule?

I mean, other than the National League thinking it's still the 19th century and forcing pitchers to hit.

Too bad there's no way the teams could actually play each other and find out, huh?

Oh, wait.

Oh, really?

Yes, and furthermore,

Just for the sake of argument...

That's great, let's take a look.

The Bills beat the Raiders, so Bills > Raiders.
The Dolphins beat the Bills, so Dolphins > BIlls
The Browns beat the Dolphins, so Browns > Dolphins.
The Raiders beat Browns, so Raiders > Browns.

Thanks, that really helped a lot.
