What the writer doesn't seem to know is that Lou Ferrigno is, in fact, supposed to
be doing the voice of The Hulk.

"First, check out this still. Looks great, right? Sadly, no, it only looks "Hollywood great." What we have here is the classic Scream Pose. Open mouth, flexed back, kind of the whole Whitmanian Yawp thing going on. But take a look at Ruffalo's neck here. Notice anything missing? That's right; the tendons aren't standing out. Barely a tendon to be seen. Nearly Tendon-free, I daresay. It's impressively thick, that neck, sure, but is thickfulness really going to help when you're trying to instill fear into a flying robot snake? Not really."

I think that Pocket Ninja must be moonlighting.

This movie is a prime example of something that is so hyped that it can't possibly live up to the fannish expectations.

ManateeGag: worse than Ang Lee?

No, they couldn't possibly fark up The Hulk worse than Ang Lee did. He literally put up comic book panels on the screen. That's right up there with Uwe Boll throwing video game footage in his video game movie, whichever one that was.

I actually enjoyed that element. What I didn't like were the cheesy, sappy story, the mediocre CGI, and the gamma dogs.

That bugged me about it too.
I'm always a little amazed at how many people thought that was a neat touch when to me it's Ang Lee saying "Don't take this too seriously, folks. See? It's just a funnybook movie!" Part of the reason the new Marvel movies have done so well is that they almost never wink at the audience and the directors and actors never treat the films like they're slumming.

BTW, the videogame movie you're thinking of is probably Doom - I don't think that was Uwe Boll.

Sybarite: I'm still waiting for a thorough deconstruction of Thor's poor war hammer technique.

Of course Thor is going to have a poor hammer technique, he has a ridiculously short handle. You would think that some one smarter then the the Thor would point out he could up his DPS by three to four times if he just stuck a proper handle on that, I bet he does not even get aggro with that thing.

Well, kids, this is what you get when you biatch and moan about a perfectly good Hulk and Banner. If you all had just said, "Ed Norton was good, and his Hulk looked awesome", they wouldn't have tried to fix something that wasn't broken, IMHO.

2012-03-20 04:12:41 PM
The Hulk from Ed Norton's movie looked the best out of the three. For the Avengers they had to change the CGI model to resemble Mark Ruffalo but in the process made it look like Down Syndrome Hulk.

Also I cannot in a million years imagine how Ruffalo could play the part better than Norton.

/what's the reason behind Norton not signing on?

Okay, different aesthetic tastes then. But the Hulk hopping around like a bunny rabbit had to annoy you a bit. I realize that he did that in the comic but there had to be a less goofy way to adapt that to the screen.

Although it did have Jennifer Connelly.

I don't think anybody ever said that Ed Norton wasn't a good Banner, he just couldn't play ball with the studio.
As for the Hulk itself, I thought the version in that movie looked to surreally rubbery and shiny. The new one still looks like a cgi creature, but he looks more "real" than either of the other cgi Hulks.

People don't realize how much they have Ed Norton to thank for TIH turning out half as good as it did. He pretty much re-wrote the script with the director. Without TIH being the modest success that it was with faithfulness to the character (TIH came out right after Iron Man), we might not be getting this Avengers movie right now...

Yeah, I saw what he was trying, but it was more of a distraction than an asset. I thought the Ed Norton Hulk movie was a much better effort. I wouldn't have minded seeing him back in this. I hope they learn from the mistakes of the first one, and the benefits of the last one, and make this Hulk decent, or he'll bring the movie crashing down around him.

As for the article, it was awesome, I think some here don't get that it was nothing but a parody, and the people that they were parodying were cool enough about it to post it. Too few people can laugh at themselves anymore...

I thought I'd heard some nerd rage about Norton's Banner. I may be thinking of the vocal minority. However, I thought that that version's Hulk was what a gi-normous human would look like. In this film (and Lee's) I think he looks bloated like a juice monkey (man on steroids). He looks like a green Mark Macguire.

Such an under-appreciated portion of her career... I've watched that movie many times, just for that particular scene... Then 'Requiem For A Dream' came out, and I was able to, uh, move on to 'other' images... :-)

Damn that sucks. I thought he really fit the look of "lanky, dorky scientist" guy and did a decent job. Was mostly just hoping he'd stay on for continuity-sake

I gotta say though that Eric Bana wasn't bad at all as Banner. My personal preference would have been Bana as Banner and the CGI Hulk from the second movie in Avengers. That, to me, seems like the best of both.

And yet Ang Lee did a movie with a fairly goofy script about people prancing around on leaves with swords. I'm not saying the guy isn't a great director but he shouldn't have felt that he was above a comic book movie.

Rubber Biscuit: He's a talented actor, but a pants-pissing crybag. Hard to work with, refused to do press, etc.

Is that right? Because "pants-pissing crybag" is sort of how he plays most of his characters. I mean Fight Club is one of my favorite movies but that's his character in a nutshell. So is Bruce Banner, which is why he was good n the role. But I don't see any reason why he has to be a dick in real life. I never met him personally but it makes sense. It's always the A-minus actors who are the biggest pricks.

I really enjoyed the original article on archery. That's why I really enjoyed this one, too. There's some real love in both.

Ang Lee's Hulk had that hilarious shot of Nick Nolte with the poodles from Hell, plus that awesome Nolte monologue before he literally chews the scenery.

Outside of that, that movie had bupkis going for it.

Hawkeye has always been my favorite because he became a superhero for the only reason that ever made any sense to me: He was trying to get laid.

2012-03-20 06:07:33 PM
From the trailer, this looks like the first Hulk that fulfills my vision... I hate Edward Norton, so his Hulk by default, was a lamo.... I like the Ang Lee movie, but that Hulk was a bit too cartoony looking.

same here, his movie-versions of comic panels and such were probably my favorite parts of the movie. the rest of it was pretty dumb.

Norton Hulk is by far my all around favorite. But my daughter likes both the Hulk movies , Hulk is her favorite superhero and really enjoys the Ang Lee one. Of course she is 4, so monster poodles are probably cooler to her than to me.

/The fight with the tank in the Lee movie is pretty good though.

The only thing I can see after reading the headline and the first paragraph of TA..

WE SAW THIS THING THAT WAS REALLY POPULAR AND DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY BUT ARE GOING TO APE IT!!

I wish people would understand that copying the format of a device does not instill the charm and interest and all the other things which lead to the success of said device (not really applicable to this, more in general).
