You mean a socialist favors the guy who isn't part of the nutbag fascist theocrat party? I'm shocked.

so, is fox trying to establish a correlation here? i.e. obama must be a socialist because elle macpherson, a socialist, supports him?

well, considering that the republican party is supported by millions of hardcore racists, what does that make it?

I think it's funny how Fox News thinks "socialist" is a dirty word. It's not. In fact, we need more Socialist politicians in the US. We have Bernie Sanders, and that's about it.

That said, Obama is not a socialist. Not even close. Though if you're a socialist voter, I can certainly see why you'd support the Obama before any of the Republican candidates.

Would make sense if Obama was in any way a socialist, instead of what he is, a blue-dog democrat.

BillCo: It is telling just how left leaning the majority of Farkers are when they try to claim that Obama is anything near a moderate. You must have forgotten about that impending train wreck called Obamacare. Obama is certainly trying to forget about it.

From here in socialist London, I can assure you that mild regulation of a private healthcare system isn't socialist.

Though we don't really describe things as socialist or not in the batshiat crazy way you seem to.

HA HJA, no I don't!

THE GREAT NAME: By the way, am I the only one to bring content to this discussion? Are you going to hide behind your professors all day?

I'm not hiding behind anything. Unless years of study and hundreds of books is hiding.

Content? HA HA HA

Did you even actually read any of those books? It's starting to look like you jsut wrote emo angst poems the whole time and got your degree for "participating".

Mentat: THE GREAT NAME: The political line had to be replaced by the political circle as a way of leftists trying to suggest that fascism was right wing even though it produced exactly the same results as communism.

Even though they spent a lot of their time fighting communists and they purged all of the socialists from their party during the Night of the Long Knives at the bequest of the church, private industry and the army. But yeah, fascism is totally the same thing as communism.

There were many competing brands of communism... fascism was just one. Just because certain groups took sides with the Nazis doesn't change the essence of their ideology.

The Nazis purged Christianity between 1932 and 1945. As I have mentioned, corporatism is a red herring, and the army was also a big factor in Russian Communism.

Our Nazi friends hated the commies, you dummy!

The Bolsheviks hated the Mensheviks, but both were commies.

You dummy.

And Hitler hated Roehm. They were both Nazis (right wingers)

Saying "Nazis were leftist" makes you the biggest dummy in this thread.

And assuming that the Nazis are leftists (I know they are not) does not necessarily make leftism evil. So not only is he wrong, he's also committing a logical fallacy. Reducto Ad Hitlerum. Or perhaps better known as Association Fallacy.

My friend, if I may call you that, you are making a mistake.

You see it is not just nazis (who really are on the left) who do atrocities and fark things up. It's every case of leftism allowed to go beyond a certain point. Russia, China, Cuba, North Korea, and the European Union.

Leftism always goes wrong, every time. This is not fallacy of association. This is a systemic trend.

More disturbingly, since socialism operates by enlarging the state and centralising power in the hands of government "deciders", there must be a point of no return beyond which the people no longer have the ability to say "no, that's enough let's ease up now". All we know is that lots of powerful advanced nations went beyond that point in the 20th century and hundreds of millions of people died.

Maybe you think wise socialists would stop of their own accord. But they say things like, "as long as there is any weath inequality the battle is not won" or "we won't stop until every greedy person ahs been brought to justice" and although we accept this as polemic hyperbole today, the Milgram and Stanford prison experiements, as well as experience on the Internet, show that by saying such things repeatedly, leftists will gradually legitimise them and give authority to what are really totalitarian concepts.

What has happened before can happen again, and the revisionist way in which the left compartmentalise and sacredise Fascism in order to distance themselves from the horrors that follow from their own ideology is a shame on the whole of humanity.

This is so depressing. A headline about Elle MacPherson joking about the Obamasocialgasm on the Howard Stern show, and it's a wall of Shills vs. Those Who Inexplicably Indulge Them, instead of a wall of Elle.

The definition of "liberal" is somebody on the left who can make a convincing case that they are not about to do mass exterminations.

Does it hurt slamming your head into a brick wall that often?

Is that how your head became flappy?

DKinMN: Who gets decide where socialist principles make sense?

Generally, it's the people through the election process. Although more and more, it's corporations who buy legislation.

Personally, as a general rule, I would say that socialism is best used when a free market solution would break down. For example, health care has inelastic demand. Ask someone if they'd give up everything they own so that they could not die today... or ask a parent if they'd forever screw themselves financially to cure their kid's cancer. If a treatment is $10,000 or a million, it doesn't make a difference... most parents would give away everything just for the chance to save their kid. It makes sense to socialize medical funding.

Another place where it makes sense to socialize is when something is necessary to participate in a society. It doesn't make sense to have a private fire department because if your neighbour doesn't engage a fire company and his house catches on fire, yours might end up burning even though you do have a contract with a fire department. It wouldn't make financial sense for them to put our your neighbour's fire, they'd have to wait until yours began to burn.

He's trying to forget that he had to settle for a plan that was created by republicans and actually implemented in one state by a republican, instead of giving us a truly socialist single-payer system.

I don't dislike the guy, but let's face reality here. Strip away his background and look at his policies, and you have a mild conservative. The fact that anyone sees him as progressive just gores to show how far into crazy the GOP has gone.
