He's so much more handsome as a blond.

He has a hint of the gayface though. Not that that's unattractive. In fact, I think that probably explains a lot of the obsessive Sherlock fans' substantial interest in the show, any hints of man-love therein, and furious slashfic writing. Sorry, straight female here and I don't find him pretty or sexy, or even mildly attractive. I just cannot for the life of me see what others see in him. To me he falls in the category of creepy, and not in any good Addams family way, but in the awful little slimy weaselly dweeby way. He is not even someone I am indifferent to, I don't respond with 'meh' but a 'ew... him... no way!' Definitely in my do not want category.

The otters, on the other hand, are cute.

Fair warning - it's not really a TV show, but more like three 90 minute movies per season. The first season was in 2010, the second season just ran this past January on the Beeb, coming stateside I believe in May.

Generally speaking, it's an update of Holmes for the modern era. The cases are riffs on the Holmes canon, but they're not direct modernizations or anything. Also, the second episode of season 1 can be a bit cringingly racist, but it's still worth it to watch. Stephen Moffat developed it with Mark Gatiss, shooting it around his Dr. Who schedule. So if you like the newest Doctor, you'll like Sherlock, as well. Overall, highly watchable, especially for Cumberbatch and Freeman.

Still photographs don't do him justice; he just looks odd. You must see him and hear him in action before you can understand how compelling he is. The voice is what does it for me I think - there's a reason he was cast as Smaug in the Hobbit.
