*gasp*

Next you're going to tell me they don't actually use their own line of utensils off camera.

Gwyneth Paltrow is a culinary genius. In fact, she's excels at everything. EVERYTHING. You mortals aren't fit to wipe her boots.

Gwyneth was probably too busy taking care of Apple and Moses, and the rock band she's married to.

I bet getting Gwyneth Paltrow and Drew Barrymore talking in the same room about the craft of acting and how hard they worked to get their break in Hollywood would create a black hole that would destroy post-irony irony as we know it.

2012-03-19 12:06:13 PM
Since none of them are chefs, no. I am not surprised.

2012-03-19 12:06:27 PM
Wouldn't care about Paltrow since any thinking person would realize she doesn't cook, and Rachael Ray's recipes are "Open can, dump contents in a pot".

Jaime Oliver does bill himself as a capable chef though, he should write his own.

It's surprising the number of Farkers that appear to have Food Network accounts. A sample, from the comments:

"I don't have a microwave so I attempted this recipe in my toaster oven. The paper towels caught fire and the bacon tasted horrible."

Tried making Bobby Flay's fried chicken recipe.
In the process I realized that he doesn't wash his own dishes; every utensil, bowl and pan I owned was dirty halfway through.
I monitored the fat temperature closely and watched the time very carefully.
Half the chicken was burnt, half was raw. Sheets of breading were coming off.

I happened to catch an episode of "Boy Meets Grill" where I watched him cook it; he whipped it up, turned on the heat and just let it go while him and his wife chatted for the camera. Never checked temperature, never measured the amount of time.
On TV, his looked like KFC or Banquet frozen chicken.

I feel a little like I've been lied to. I now buy fried chicken already done from the local grocery stores.

WTF... I knew chocholate was bad for dogs, but i didn't know onions could be toxic to them.

Are there any other food-items dogs can't eat?

What about the celebrity recipes that appear in the "National Enquirer?" How can I be sure that George Hamilton's 'easy cheesy macaroni salad' is really his own recipe or not?

You could argue that Jamie Oliver is. He's had is own restaurants.

If the celebrity provides the name for the dish does it really matter if someone else comes up with the ingredients and directions?

For perfect burgers, if you don't have a machine to double grind your ground meat or you've forgotten to ask the butcher to do it for you, I add a tablespoon of potato starch dissolved in a quarter cup of water to the ground beef and then mix by hand. Burgers stay in shape while you cook them.

/Let's see how long before somebody steals that.

Lots of onions are bad. They aren't going to die from something that has some onion in it.

My favorite comment on this recipe:

'I clicked on the "Print Recipe" link for this recipe, but my printer only printed out a sheet of paper that read, "Your An Idiot!"...and I can't even reply to it to tell it that it misspelled "you're". Help!'

When I saw Paula Dean making sushi, I knew the gig was up.

I think I heard those Celebrity chefs like Giada, Paula Dean, etc pay about 300 to 500 to real chefs to give them recipes.

I detest the celebrity "chefs" but I like giada's boobs.

Alton Brown could make a better meal then all of them combined using his belt, pants, and shoes as ingredients and something he found on his shoe as seasoning
.

There may very well be circles where names like Rachael Ray and Jamie Oliver are celebrities. But after googling them, I don't want to set foot in those circles. They smell like Regis and Cathy Lee circles.

As to the ghost written recipe books: Yeah no big surprise there. The book that made Julia Child's famous was the labor of three chefs over the course of many years.

Do people actually use cookbooks anymore? I will watch cooking shows to see techniques and equipment that I never knew existed but usually I just make it up as I go along unless I'm baking which does sort of need some direction. If I really want to make something specific I look it up online.

2012-03-19 12:26:35 PM
If it's not Alton Brown's cookbook, I am not buying it.

The best of the tv cooks are full of bunk.

/The best actual cookbook is "the joy of cooking"

SockMonkeyHolocaust: I bet getting Gwyneth Paltrow and Drew Barrymore talking in the same room about the craft of acting and how hard they worked to get their break in Hollywood would create a black hole that would destroy post-irony irony as we know it.

Drew came back from substance abuse, though, and parents who treated her as a drinking buddy instead of a child. She seems like she wouldn't have 'better than you' issues.

Gwyneth Paltrow hasn't gone through shiat, and has a bad rep. If you're not her social caste, you don't exist... you just don't get the 'i'm better than you' treatment, you get the 'invisible' treatment, which is worse. I still don't know why she hangs around Beyonce and Jay-Z, her being around them is kinda creepy given her rep, and who they are.
