Mr. Pot please let me introduce you to Mr. Kettle.

Can you actually sue someone for possibly pirating things that you have pirated? Can you take an entire continental landmass to court?

These and other burning questions answered today in The Peoples Court!

I'm very pissed at Apple today because I can't upgrade to Lion without first upgrading to Snow Leopard, but even through my pissiness I can see that this isn't Apple's problem, beyond ending dealings with the offenders.

Also the Chinese aren't all one guy. It's not an ironic twist that Chinese pirates would illegally sell Chinese material.

I'm a little curious about this. Does your version of OS X have time machine? I believe you can make a time machine backup, wipe out the Mac, install Lion fresh, and then restore from time machine backup.

It's more time consuming than a straight upgrade, but at least you'll have your settings and data

A group of prominent Chinese writers have demanded millions of dollars in compensation from technology giant Apple Inc. for allegedly selling unlicensed versions of their books in its online store, a lawyer said Monday.

How about this: see what you can do about authoring and enforcing a serious amount of IP legislation, and then we'll get serious about investing much effort into protecting yours. Until then... don't expect much help.

Horseshiat. Next thing you'll be telling me is that there are over 1.3 billion unique individuals in China, each with their own personality, agenda and involved history - a number I can't possibly comprehend due to the constraints Dunbar's Number puts on the human brain.

I laugh at that notion. Ah ha ha ha! Idiot.

Then you need external install media, which costs more. ($69 (new window))

10.6 is required to purchase 10.7 via the App Store, which lets you download and install for $29.

You can create an external USB key if you have the downloaded version and a 8GB USB stick.

Since 10.6 also cost $30, they've got you either way. Unless you have a "a friend." *cough*bittorrent*cough*

Apple is a legitimate business making millions while chinese pirates are numerous and unlicensed. It makes sense that Apple is easier to target for copyright law enforcement. Just because some pirates get away with it doesn't mean Apple can too.

On a serious note, it must take a special breed to want to deal with a worldwide market these days. The number of crappy little local lawsuits and regulations would just crush the spirit of a normal person. I wonder how many lawyers Apple has working for them on a regular basis?

Technically you can buy Lion at any time without an App store computer. From there all you need access to is the media and a DVD burner. Apple stores are actually known to do this for you if you purchase Lion and say you don't have broadband at home.

When I purchased Lion I was able to pull the DMG file out of the install folder and burn it to a DVD and thumb drive with no issues.

Trying to figure out why you are pissed at Apple for something you want to do but don't have to do. Coming up empty. Also trying to figure you why your lazy ass didn't upgrade to Snow Leopard at least a year ago. That's almost as funny as people now trying to get ahold of a Snow Leopard install DVD nearly a year after Apple said they were going bye-bye.

I agree. In fact, I think to run Lion, you should have to purchase and install systems 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 7.5, 8, 9, Cheetah, Puma, Jaguar, Panther, Tiger, Leopard, and Snow Leopard first.

MORAL HIGH GROUND DOESN'T WORK THAT WAY

How many people does moral high ground employ? What a nice world you seem to inhabit - as long as you have the moral high ground, things like intellectual property theft and counterfeiting don't matter! While the 6.7 billion consumers outside of the U.S. are happily buying freshly counterfeited copies of American-researched products, the ones we manufacture will just buy themselves and fund future R&D, right? Who needs "exports" anyway?!? We're consumers!
