This unfortunately is a fight that will never end. It will always be the anti abortion no matter what the reason for the pregnancy forces against the abortion even to the last minute before the child comes out of the birth canal forces. Even the side that "wins" this round will have to fight another day.

Sadly true. There will always be some maniacs willing to argue about when the soul enters the very essence of a sperm and the nucleus of an ova; and people fighting over the life of mother vs. baby even when both are lying dead on the ER table.

I personally have issues with late term abortions. It is one reason I did not vote for Bill Clinton the second time. (No, I did not vote for Dole). I also however have not had to face a wife or child or family member being impregnated by rape or incest (thankfully) and have not had to face that issue so I'm not sure how I'd react to that.

One of the things that bother me most about abortion, is the people with money will get an abortion if they want one because they will just travel abroad to get one. When they make it illegal for a woman to do that, then I might stop considering them hypocrites.

Oh, and I might add that if you are going to force women to have unwanted children then you damn sure should make sure they are fed while they are here on earth.

False equivalency is false. Something I think the rabidly anti-choice folks* do not get is that no woman WANTS to have an abortion. It's an awful choice made under duress and you're never the same afterwards. People who are fighting for women to be able to control their own bodies, especially in cases of rape and incest, aren't gleefully trying to puree 7-month old fetuses for kicks. No woman wants to have multiple abortions and treat it like her regular contraception or as if it's the morning-after pill.

I'm ok with the Roe v. Wade "viability" balancing of interests. i have seen nothing from the anti-choice people with any real medical rationale. It seems all about punishing sluts women based on religious dogma (right wing males), or worse, envy (right-wing females). That will never be ok.

*not saying you are one, btw

If Obama doesnt win this election by at least 80% then we know its rigged.

This. The big deal for most people I know, right now, is the economy, yet the Republicans are talking pushing unpopular policies on birth control and abortion. How out of touch can they be?

If the economy really still sucks, they should be focusing on the economy and talking about whatever plan they have to fix it. They aren't, so I can only assume they don't have a plan. Therefore, why would I vote for them? If the economy is improving, Obama is doing a good job, so again, why would I vote Republican? They need to make up their minds.

It's rather amusing watching all the GOP contenders babble about how Obama is the biggest failure who ever failed at being president, and yet none of them can articulate that failure beyond the same tired old Republican talking points they've been using since the Reagan Administration.

It's one of the few remaining soap opera strips, and it's managed to run for about 50 years so far. It's amusing to read sometimes because the writer is clearly trying to give the strip a more modern feel, while the artist apparently formed his style around 1978 and is determined not to change a thing.

Heh. This guy thinks they could make some kind of "law" that would stop rich, powerful hypocrites from getting whatever they want while at the same time denying it to others.
That's almost cute.
The whole "anti-abortion" movement hinges on the knowledge of most of those driving it that THEY can arrange and afford to get an abortion whenever they want, no matter how difficult they have made it for the poor and disenfranchised.

There seems to be a small but growing community of people who read newspaper comics ironically. They're fans of Mary Worth, Apt. 3G, Gil Thorp, Rex Morgan, and the like. The commentary on the blogs is usually pretty sarcastic and snarky, and is pretty much the only legitimate reason for these comics to exist. See The Comics Curmudgeon. (new window)

I find these soap opera strips pretty pointless, but these blogs did introduce me to the human train wreck that Funky Winkerbean (new window) has become

Cute and all but I can't help but think they would be written with more finesse and wit than by using crass vulgarity and such. Not that I mind...but the Family Circus one for example sidestepped the shock/outrage tactic and was more nuanced. Maybe it's just personal style.
