It's that married women tend to vote with their husbands.

But with marriage rates on the decline and the new generation not in a hurry to start a family or even get married, and when they do it's usually not until their 30s, the changing conditions of social inertia have created a new dominant voting bloc: The 20-something single. Especially single women.

It means, essentially, that the GOP is so out of touch with younger voters that as the Millenials age and move into voting years, the Republicans gradually lose more and more electoral votes.

FYI: Millenials are generally considered to have been born between 82-99, but the important years are 89-92, with a peak year of 1990. That means for many of them, this will be their first federal election. The only caveat to this is that voter turnout for young people is generally not very good -- usually hovers around 30%. But those who do vote usually vote along liberal lines.

Old people, on the other hand, overwhelmingly vote in droves because they have nothing better to do and because they are the same age as those running for office. Politics has always been an old person vocation

Do people vote as individuals anymore, or do they search endlessly for what group they fit into and how they should vote accordingly?

Someone doesn't understand statistical distributions. Also, research shows that groups do tend to coallesce in voting behavior. Reality has a liberal bias.

Kinda unrelated, but I watched Game Change today, and I kinda feel bad for Sarah.

But on the other hand, all she had to do was recognize her own inadequacies and back out, telling them "I'm not ready for this." There's no shame in that. Harriet Miers did it because she's never even been a judge before -- how could she possibly sit on the Supreme Court? I mean, there's the Peter Principle, and then there's no way no how no farking hell to high water is this dunce even remotely qualified for this position.

And Sarah didn't do that. Was it ego, or hubris, or did she really think she could do it? Was her stunning levels of dunning-kruger getting in the way of not understanding the enormity of her decision, or did she just not care and her thirst for media attention overrode everything?
