"And praying for that entryway in to the city, that God would protect us from evildoers, mainly the drug crowd, that they would be dissuaded to come in to the county," Geringswald said.

you know, instead of praying at drug addicts, maybe they should try arranging rehab beds for them.

If God is willing to destroy evil, but unable, He is not all-powerful.
If God is able to destroy evil, but unwilling, He is not all-loving.
If God is both willing and able to destroy evil, how does evil still exist?
If God is neither willing nor able to destroy evil, then why worship Him?

Why do atheists give a sh*t what religious folks do? I've always wondered that. Wow, you don't believe in a higher power, now get a life.

Well, usually of late the religious folk have been trying to pass laws that would have been extreme 300 years ago, much less now, so I'm going to go ahead and continue to care what the think and what they do.

King Something: If God is willing to destroy evil, but unable, He is not all-powerful.

Without evil, to compare it to, there can be no good.

If God is able to destroy evil, but unwilling, He is not all-loving.

That's because man cannot know God's mind. He loves you and knows that a little evil is good for you.

If God is both willing and able to destroy evil, how does evil still exist?

Don't be ridiculous.. of course he exists. It's right there in the book.

If God is neither willing nor able to destroy evil, then why worship Him?

Duh... if you don't, you'll burn in hell for all eternity... again, because he loves you so damn much.

Because people who think fighting crime with deity sanctioned water needs to be mocked openly.

It's because these deliudional people are accepted in society as Normal. Its also the fact that one of our major political party have been hijacked and mow are passing laws to Fit their theologht.

It's also the tenant of every religion to "correct" the unbeliever. I see these public religious actions similar to wearing KKK hoods and welcoming the new black family "properly"

There are a lot of people who believe in Santeria in my area, I think they are complete loons, but if they sprinkle chicken blood on the county line to keep out evil juju I'm OK with that. I don't believe what they are doing, but if it helps them then OK go right ahead.

Why would it make me feel unwelcome as these people feel. If you don't believe in it then who cares? Apparently they do believe in it and it annoys them.

There is freedom of religion not freedom from religion, they should probably spend their time picking up trash on the side of the road rather than washing away year old olive oil or water.

I have a wonderful philosophy on religion, I don't give a feck what other people do.

I tend to think they're just pointing up how farking silly the whole thing is - how sprinkling water on something and saying the magic words is meaningless. Just as meaningless as their sprinkling water and saying other words.

Because mockery of self important stuffed shirts is a time honored tradition here in the US.

I didn't say it had to be a GOOD joke, but i'm sure it was funny to the atheists and that's all that really matters.

The question was asked "why would atheist care about this?" I was providing an answer why an atheist would do it.

They decided to make a public spectacle just like the religious folks did before. Thus fighting fire with fire.

Both groups want to take it piublic. Keep it non violent. As an atheist, I'm tired of people assuming that freedom of religion means that I have to agree with you in public or suffer silently.

You want to pray? Do it at home or in church. You want to live your life as Mohammed would? Great! I don't care as long as Im not forced to.

Religious people have a tendency to forget their right to religion ends at themselves.

So, somehow they are forcing their beliefs on you by sprinkling some water and saying some words, that is how you see it, right? Shucks, I prayed last time I was on top of a huge mountain in the national forest and a thunderstorm rolled in. I made it home safe, but I hope you don't unpray me. Do I understand the difference? Also, putting words in the mouth of another is a typical strawman argument. A ploy of lesser minds.

We can't prohibit people from practicing their religion on the side of the road (in the traffic lanes perhaps but that is not for the same reason).

It must suck for you to live in a country with a Constitution that guarantees the freedom of people to do and believe things you don't like.

I saw this on BayNews9, our local cable 'news' outlet. I bet people slowed down when the religious group blessed the road, they seemed to whiz on by the atheists.

I bet somebody called the cops on them for pouring cleaning chemicals on the road which will leach into the aquifer, so what they did was silly and a violation of the law. The BN9 video is not available online, but our local ABC affiliate had a poorly done story - the 'journalist' said the atheists were baptizing and tried several more times to be witty but failed. It is available here.

you're over-thinking it a bit. the atheists are just mocking the religious folks. that's all it is, nothing more/nothing less. sure, I can see how you might consider that a dick move, and yes - I can also concede the point that it's kind of childish. But if the atheists want to spend their time being childish then that's perfectly valid, so long as they aren't breaking any laws.
