Wonderduck: The Daytona Road course has the problem of those huge banked turns. F1 cars had problems with the relatively minor banking at Indy; the 31-degree turns would probably play hob with the engines. But oh, it would be glorious to see for however long they lasted.

The problem at Indy was the tires they were running that year couldn't handle the sustained speeds and the resulting heat. The drivers' association had a working solution, to put a chicane in the banked corner that would have solved the problem.

Guess which team pitched a biatch-fit and wouldn't let it happen?

Ferrari - one of only three teams that were using Bridgestones that year. They waltzed to victory against Jordan and Minardi.

/Bernie is not the problem with F1. The problem is how much influence Ferrari has on the FIA.

afghanwhiggle: crotchgrabber: For the first time in a long time I'm looking forward to Indycar more than F1 this year.

And if I'm not too drunk/sleepy I may use this thread to rant alone about the race tonight.

Not sure why you feel that way, this year has one of the tightest grids in recent memory. Seeing Kimi, Jense, Lewis, Michael, Fernando, and Seb all battle it out in competitive cars is going to be epic!

I'm not saying that I'm not stoked for F1, I'm just saying I'm really excited for Indycar. New car, multiple engines, possible engine failure drama, no Danica, Indycar has a really strong field, and I don't have to spend a small fortune to go to one of the races.
