ravnostic: Doh! How did I miss that! I've been shooting the past couple days for this one, wasn't sure which way I was to go; thanks!

Probably just got lost in the middle of the other posts.  Gotta say it's nice to have more posts in here ;)

agreed, but when the regular forum is up and working, it's much nicer. One continuous thread is so....chaotic? Prohibitive? Not sure of the term...yet we all were so thankful to have this added!

Today's "Giveaway of the Day" is Light Developer. A little (under 10mb) photoenhancing/processing program.

I haven't downloaded it and can't until much later tonight, so I have no comments to add*.

I highly recommend looking at the comments on the site before downloading. Experiences reported there are all over the place.

Can't beat the price, though (well, today, anyway).

Thanks for the feedback Rav & Elsinore, had to dig pretty deep into the archives to come up with two shots. Life's been too busy to get anywhere where any significant history happened (tried twice to get down to Daley Plaza but no dice.)

  2012-11-21 11:07:10 AM
I need a clarification for tonight: I would like to use a photo of a marcher in the Veteran's Day parade here in NYC, in his uniform but not "performing" as a reenactor. I would consider that "Historical" what about the Peanut Gallery?

  2012-11-21 11:31:01 AM
My problem is the "here" element, but if you think it'll fly, who am I to argue?

I imagined "reenactor" as being someone in an organized environment for the purpose of reenacting (Colonial Williamsburg, Civil War encampments, etc.)

But, if you feel it fits the theme, I'm not going to argue... I teach middle school... I get enough arguments on a daily basis.

  2012-11-21 12:00:19 PM
Were they re-enacting homecoming parades of the past?

/don't have a problem with it either way if Yugoboy doesn't.

  2012-11-21 04:00:52 PM
Oh, hai guys. I might actually post something tonight if I can find a suitable unused shot from my archives. Definitely posting next week.

I didn't read everything above, but to address Ravnostic's question, no. No stitching. That was last week.

Yugoboy: My problem is the "here" element, but if you think it'll fly, who am I to argue?

I cannot think of any more "here" than with the person who was actually there. I just think the guy has a really interesting look, so Ima gonna do it.

  2012-11-21 07:21:48 PM
Two of my shots from this week were taken from shootings where I used images in previous contests, however, they are different frames. Just FYI, k bai.

  2012-11-21 07:54:11 PM
This is tough. In theory, every photo take at my house counts, since it's in the middle of a civil war battlefield and two major encampments.

Welcome back!

Also, FYI for everyone--I'm running a 5 mile race in the morning, then heading to our family get together, so I may not be around much tomorrow.  Er...today.  Regardless, you guys are normally on your best behavior, so I'm not too worried, but if you need something urgently and I'm not around/responding in-thread or here, feel free to send a farkback.

Any idea of a timetable for the return of Farktography.net?

  2012-11-25 10:59:37 AM

Yugoboy: Any idea of a timetable for the return of Farktography.net?

It will happen on December 21 2012,...

The return of Farktography will herald in a new era of compassion, thoughtfulness, joy, humility and generosity the likes of which the world has never seen. Artists and intellectuals will lead this uniquely fair and balanced world as the human race breaches our Earthly bounds to spread amongst the stars. Truly the end of the world as the Mayans knew it.

Or not.

Fark? Compassion? You're new here, aren't you? ;)

Seriously though, I'm working on it today. It's going to be a work in progress for a while though.

Much as I miss my often-daily Farktography fixes, you won't hear any grousing from this direction...thank you for working on this!

Congrats to swampa2 on his "History Happened Here" win this week!

I just got home with the kids from some errands.  I brought Lord Ezekiel some liquid refreshment on the way home, and upon receiving it, he immediately retreated back into his cave. I can only surmise he is still working on things.  I'm getting excited to see the upgrades myself, and I am hopeful since I have not yet heard a stream of explatives coming from the cave ;)

The expletives were loud, fast, and furious while you and the kids were gone. It's been one of those afternoons where every inch of progress has been a battle.

I was afraid ^^ that would have been the case.  But I wanted to believe. ;)

  2012-11-25 05:09:29 PM
Farktography.net should be working now. Users are migrated in, forums are migrated in. There's still lots of work to be done, but folks should be able to get in and use the forums at any rate.

Unless its all farked up, in which case, disregard this as blatherings of a sober man ;)

Lord Ezekiel,

No Joy, tried logging in and got:
"Sorry! Either there is no active user in our system with that information, or the information you provided does not match the information for your account."

Tried password recovery option (both ways, with either uid or password) and got:
"Sorry! An account could not be located with that information. Correct your entry and try again. If you have recently registered a new account with this site, we may be waiting for you to verify your e-mail address, or we might not have approved your registration request yet."

Tried account recovery option with my email and it sent me the user name I tried in above steps.

/more hits than I got total in the 3+ years my account's been active! Not what I was expecting today, for sure.

So, what's the current flickr-hit-to-beer exchange rate these days? :-)

Congrats, chupa, that's a really cool shot. I especially like the contrast-stretched version.

First, as someone who's also birthed a much less critical labor of love, thanks for the time and effort I know you're putting into this.

In the hopes that this may be helpful, here are some errors I'm seeing:

1) Logging in from the home page now takes me to the "Site policies" page where I then check both boxes (agree to terms, over 13) and then click the "Save and continue logging in" button. However, that just returns me back to the "Site policies" page with both boxes unchecked.

2) On the "Site policies" page, if I click the "Terms of Service" link, I get a 500 Internal Server Error page.

3) If I go to the forums without logging in (since I can't) and then take an action that requires me to log in (such as clicking the Quote button on a post), I get the mini login window. When I enter my credentials there, I get the following:

Uncaught exception in /homepages/42/d134773529/htdocs/fark/farktography/farktography.net/lib /util/UserUtil.php line, 963

On #1 -- What web browser are you running? Do you have any plugins running like NoScript, Adblockplus, etc?

OK, I'm hoping you changed something so I don't look like an idiot :-) but both #1 and #3 are working OK now. I'm using IE9 (yes, yes, I know, I've got Chrome installed also, but I have to have IE for my work).

It's an AJAX based framework. Four out of the five solutions are guaranteed to be CBFM. ;)

Seriously though, I wish I could say that I had... I'd tried to force your ID to be marked as having accepted the terms of service, but kept running into errors. It might be the site provider was doing some tweaking to things under the hood, hence the problem you were seeing with #3. I'll keep an eye peeled for it all the same.

In other news, the Calendar module is loaded, events ported in, and upcoming/recent events blocks added to the sides. That should take care of the base functionality. On to seeing how badly ftControl is going to barf on the new framework...

I also get the internal error, using chrome, no extentions/embedded carp (so far as I know). lgt http://farktography.net/termsOfUseUrl (cap sensitive?)

//regardless, I'm sure happy you're willing to take the time to fixor and upgrade, and I hope some of them user id's you added aren't them damned spammers that prompted this in the first place!!

Yep -- it looks like just a missing file. I'm not sure what the hosting provider is doing, but what should be throwing 404s (file not found) is throwing 500s instead. It looks like there was a custom 404 page added which I probably toasted when I nuked the old site. I'll get after it tomorrow night.

ravnostic: //regardless, I'm sure happy you're willing to take the time to fixor and upgrade, and I hope some of them user id's you added aren't them damned spammers that prompted this in the first place!

Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelllllllllllllllllllll no. I only loaded IDs back to Wednesday of the week prior (which looks like it was before our Russian friends *cough*shiatheads*cough* had at things. Worst case, the new code has administrative approval built in, so unless you've posted on the site before (legitimately, any spam has been whacked), you didn't get approved. That oughta keep the riff raff out.

In other news, has a picture that got printed (with accreditation) in the print version ECHO magazine, touting a local production; it's in the fartography forum he's put up. I'll linkage it when things are back to normanal. Go caradoc !!!

I seem to have broken it again. It happened when I was asked to login again to reply to a thread comment.

ft.net not letting me in, either. I get past the account name and password, and it insists I read the terms of service and acknowledge that I'm over 14 - but never accepts it when I check the boxes and try to save.

  2012-11-26 08:05:25 AM
Hm I'm not able to log in now either...code logic.  Seems...illogical.
