The most evil regimes in fiction. The Republic of Gilead is well on its way to becoming reality.

Gilead isn't fiction, it's a vision of the future under President Santorum.

I thought it was based on present-day Texas?

Wow, came in here to talk about the Republic of Gilead and I find that almost the whole damn thread is talking about it.

Also, if the damn site ain't rendering after 20 seconds of showing a page with a blank content frame while querying varying ad hosting sites, I'm closing the damn window.

Not sure about "viral", but yeah, it's a pretty blatant ad.

The only surprising bit was that it wasn't on EW.

Forbidden Doughnut: Domination of the Draka

/probably obscure

I hope not. I wish more stories were coming out (short or novel length), I'd particularly like some cross over where the Drakas re-discover how to travel to alternate universe (as in the novel Drakon), for example the Terminator Universe after Judgement Day where it would be bad guys against bad guys with the human resistance stuck between the two.

When did dystopian get watered down to mean authoritarian with a little mix of evil? Where is the lie? It can't be dystopian without the lie! That is the whole premise. A dystopian world is a perfect world in appearance but built on the lies underneath. There is no lie in the hunger games!

Yeah but they intended to destroy all solids. At least the Borg thought they were doing everyone a favor by assimilating them.

Same was pleased to see them name Kefka the OG ICP as the real power of the geshtalian empire.

fusillade762: No Mirror Universe Terran Empire?

Bunch of pussies. Overthrown and enslaved after buying Spock's "peace" philosophies. Not to mention caving in to Hoshi's demand to be empress after showing up in one single futuristic starship. In the real world, they would have blown her to bits.

fusillade762: No Goa'uld?

I guess eight seasons of body-snatching deity impersonation mass murder doesn't go as far as it used to.

Maybe, but what were they going to do about their solid Cardassian and Breen allies if the conflict went their way? As to the Borg, I think they saw assimilation as doing themselves a favor instead of the other way around. Absorb more races, acquire their knowledge, ect.

Well they would have systematically done away with their so called allies when it became convenient. The Borg truly believed they were achieving perfection by assimilating the rest of the galaxy. But then the Borg Queen was kind of a biatch. Kind of sexy though.

Take on the entire quadrent after the Prophets cut off any further supplies and ships? Not in this time continuum. Yes, the Queen was good looking for a hardass; but the real crown of sexy is held by the reboot movie's Uhura.

No mention of the Cryx?

The king of all dragons ruling over an undead empire of ancient liches and hot chicks in black leather?

afearofnumbers.files.wordpress.com

They slaughter men women and children without mercy, chop up the corpses combine the body parts with whatever machinery they find laying around and turn them into a mindless killing machine. And then use the souls of the poor victims as a power source. If you betray them they'll rip your soul from you body and torture it for all eternity. If you have information they require even if your dead they'll use forensic necromancy to extract the knowledge they require from you desecrated skull.

Combine that with zombie pirates, ghost pirates, satyr women, and the literal demons of hell... Everybody else are just bad guys. The cryx are farking evil!

Pretty sure those would both be more accurately described as dystopias.
