He's wants to troll the gamers again.

Well played, Roger.

Who cares what he has to say? He's an obnoxiously self-important, self-entitled jerk whose mouth was a shiat-spewing arsehole long before his jaw tried to nobly sacrifice itself for the good of mankind.

Get over yourself and die. Or die and get over yourself. Either way works.

I wonder if Ebert can motorboat without a lower jaw? Does he get extra motorboatin' action or is he unable to achieve the minimum lip-to-boob pressure required? Inquiring minds want to know.

How do you define art? Despite the stupidity of the writing, acting and direction, the animators and FX people are just as talented if not more so than any pretentious painter or sculptor. It's not their fault they're involved with a shiatty movie. The great artists of the Renaissance weren't particular about who commissioned their work.

I just wonder why he is so obsessed with the point. He put this on facebook earlier in the week as 'an in depth art critique' and then said he just thought the video was funny and wanted to share that smile.

Yeah, you trolling Ebert. As much as I think it is funny to watch gamers nerd rage over silly shiat, I don't get why Ebert does.

Bukharin: The answer is always PC

This. Modern PC's support DX11, consoles only support 9, consoles have small amounts of video memory, PC's can have up to 2gb or more of video ram. System ram and processing power/core numbers are way higher on PC.

The PS3 and Xbox360 are going on what? 4? 5? years old now? They're long in the tooth, and just don't deliver the best graphics available because they're old.

However, the whole point is rendered moot by the fact that no PC game can utilize all that extra hardware power. Games these days are all made specifically for consoles as they have larger market share, then they are then ported to PC later with various degrees of success. The games themselves are now being limited by needing to be console compatible.

Of course since all the model rendering is done on a PC, one could export a very high poly and high texture model out of the rendering program and it would look completely real, at the sacrifice of real time frame-rates.

You lost me there, as in stop parroting that fud. Sure there's a lot of shovel ware that can't do it but there's still a lot of great titles that can and do take advantage of powerful hardware. Counter-Call of Battlefield Effect 9: Left for Dead Island is not the extent of the gaming catalog.

And Ebert really feels that way about games.

The point is that this particular street runs both directions.

Young mediums take time to find their footing, and along the way there are going to be lots of "Weekend at Bernie's" before we reach our "Requiem for a Dream" moments.

Ebert is the worst kind of nerd: one who eats his own. He excludes and derides the passion of other nerds in order to defend his narrow world view. The "back at ya" sentiment gaming nerds are unleashing isn't at all helpful, but it's not unexpected or unreasonable.

Ebert knows movies. That's it. His opinions on games and gaming as an art form are irrelevant, and I'm not entirely sure why people can't just ignore the old fuddy-duddy.

Ah, ok then, but surely you can see why I assumed otherwise.

Anyway...
I agree a lot of good art can go into bad movies. That doesn't inherently prove that a movie, considered as a whole, is a piece of art. I'd argue that what makes something art largely comes down to intention depending on the intention, even a bad movie may be art -- it may be very poorly executed art, but art nonetheless.

To back up his previous declaration that video games are not Art, Ebert made his own arbitrary rule that Art with a capita A is not interactive. He was wrong then, but now he's just resorting to the equivalent of an ad hominem argument (for the sake of further trolling).
