So do you tell your guards not to crash the boards on free throws now? It seems like such a bang bang play where the ref has to see if the ball his the rim or the player is past the free throw line at the same time. Seems like that's a hard thing to get right and is usually just let go.

By the way, even if it's a correct call, it's a horse-shiat rule. If he makes the shot and there's an offensive violation, it should be a do-over.

That's how they work it on penalty kicks in soccer.
If both teams screw up, re-kick.
If the offense screws up, and it's a goal, re-kick. If it's missed, play on.
If the defense screws up, and it's a goal, it counts. If it's missed, re-kick.

You tell your guards to wait to crash the boards until after the ball hits the rim, like the shooter has to do, so they don't get called for a lane violation.
