So Diablo is destroyed and does not make an appearance? Why even call it Diablo.

I was going to mention that my God-Emperor is back on Terra and Belial is probably on The Rock, but I see you have that angle covered.

doesn't azmodan work at cinnabons?

Blizzard's development plan was downright diabolical. Everyone was raising Cain about the delays, but Blizzard execs just continued their barbaric treatment of the fans.

Still not sure how I feel about the whole "must be connected to Battle.net" thing, but I'll probably pick it up eventually.

Right now I'm more interested in the (limited) announcement yesterday that there is work being done on releasing enhanced versions of Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate II with an updated version of the Infinity Engine (new window). Just hoping they don't try to shoehorn it into the 4e rule-set and so far that doesn't seem to be in the plans - sounds like it will mostly be a graphics and UI update.

/not that I don't like 4e, but converting an AD&D game to 4e would be a complete mess, especially since 4e Forgotten Realms is completely different due to events that have occurred, and wouldn't work in the Time of Troubles.

Different types of games, but I find myself wanting GW 2 more then this.

I feel sorry for the Torchlight 2 developers though. their only hope to get any sort of marketshare is to get their game out prior to this one. TL1 was a fun game, but D3 will completely overshadow TL2.

Already downloaded and waiting for two months...

I'm going to pass on Diablo 3.

Graphically, it is fairly unimpressive - not much better than 2. In fact, it looks a little too much like Gauntlet Legends.
The always-on connection is the big deal breaker. My microwave oven breaks my wifi connection. If my wife heats up a cup of coffee will my session end? I will clearly be unable to play it on my laptop while on an airplane or if I am killing time in the car (if I can con my wife into driving).
And the whole auction house functionality is going to pretty much eliminate the modding community.
Oh, and no LAN play. I could have lived with that being missing, but now it is just another FU from Blizzard.

Come to think of it, the last Blizzard game I bought WAS Diablo 2 since I don't do WoW and I am still pissed about 1/3 of Starcraft 2 being released.

Yeah, according to the tweets by the dev's, they're keeping it 2e. You can find more Here.

Too bad they didn't release it in 2008 or earlier, then it might have been a decent sequel to Diablo 2 instead of a shiattier version of Torchlight with invasive copy-protection.

Bioware and all the companies they've shared projects with are sitting on a gigantic pile of established games based on d20 SRD statistics, I doubt they'd bother building a rule-set from scratch when they could just grab old design schema and repurpose them instead. Computer folk are lazy.

Loved Guild Wars, Morrowind, and just started Neverwinter Nights (for $20 picked up the Complete Collection set that has NWN 1 and 2 with 3 expansions for each). I plan to get Skyrim once there is a Gold or GOTY edition with all the DLC included. Is this game going to be worth my ever-dwindling time? Difficulty, I have not played Diablo or Baldur's Gate.

I, for one, can't wait for this to be released. I scheduled a vacation week from the 13th-20th today.

roc6783: Is this game going to be worth my ever-dwindling time?

Short answer: no.

Long answer: nooooooooooooooooooooooo.

//Everything you listed was a strategic RPG or a plot RPG, Diablo is an action RPG, and from the looks of it #3 isn't going to be particularly good even in that context. Buy Bastion or Torchlight instead if you want a go at the genre, no reason to force the extra-bland generic version down your throat if you don't have to.

2012-03-16 02:32:53 PM
Meh. I will just keep playing diablo 2 - you know, the one which didn't explicitly endorse RMT and actually let me play single player or with my brother without thinly disguised intrusive copy protection motivated unnecessary net requirements.

ITT people with D3 preorders.

I loved playing through those games.
