That's a lot of Eggs Benedict.

If he eats that and severely restricts his carbs he'll not only lose weight but his overall cholesterol will drop and his ldl/hdl ratio will vastly improve

What do you win, gall bladder surgery?

I wonder if his level of physical activity is going to increase, decrease or stay the same. I could see his health improving if he supplements this with a more active lifestyle. Either way, I'll be curious to see the results in a month.

Also, Fat Head approves

My dad went on a bacon-egg-sausage-cheese diet after he had his heart attack. 12 year old me thought he was killing himself, but his cardiologist loved him for it, his numbers improved so well that he was able to go off almost all of his meds, and he lost like 40 lbs.

Fast forward 10 years, he began eating nothing but fruit all day and developed Type II diabetes, and gained more than the 40lbs back.

This guy will be just fine.

That. Should be interesting to see his results.

Also, 1/4 pound of butter is 800 calories, and 12 large eggs is 924 calories. Kale only adds a few calories and has a ton of vitamins. If he's not eating much else, his caloric intake is definitely going to be low enough to lose some weight.

I don't think your story suggests what you think it does. Think about the process for a moment. Your dad went from eating a high fat, high protein, low sugar diet to eating a low fat, low protein, extremely high sugar diet. I'm unclear on how a suboptimal insulin response in that scenario would be anything other than "expecting the obvious".

And there's a difference between being thin and being healthy. You can eat nothing but greasy bacon cheeseburgers all day while running marathons if you really want. You'll do great because you'll be packed with energy all the time, you'll have great definition from having all the protein you need for muscle growth and probably skinny as a rail..... and you'll probably also drop dead at 40 because your arteries turned to marble.

Point being, I think a serious health problem like diabetes was virtually inevitable with your father if he really did take his eating to such wild extremes. Fruit didn't make him sick, his long term inability to exercise a little common sense at the dinner table did.

And during this entire time how much exercise was he getting?

The foods you eat are a small factor in what kind of problems you develop. Being prone to things like cancer, high cholesterol, lie more in genetics.

Yes, "bad" foods increase risk, but 6 eggs a day can have a positive effect for some, and some it can cause their health to be problematic.

As someone who has traditionally very high cholesterol and who has done the ketosis / Atkins diet, I have one thing to say:

The carb craving reaches its peak on the twelfth day.

Eggs are great for you. I eat at least four a day.

That is a large amount of butter though.

Leptin is a beautiful hormone.

Leptin is released when fat is consumed, and acts on neuropeptide Y in the brain to shut down the processes that make you feel hungry.

Don't believe me? Eat 800 calories of rice one day, and a stick of butter another- the butter will have you feeling fuller longer.
