Aquapope: aselene: Viewing the whole picture reveals that it is cold in some places, and warm in others. Sorry Fark libs. You'll have to wait another year if you want to try to prove Global Warming.

Global Climate Change. Get it right. I am a Fark Lib, and I won't use a hot day in March to prove anything, other than the protean nature of weather. But it's not weather we're talking about, it's climate.

Surely the climate change is a result of the global warming? You can`t say the climate is changing due to the warming then say the warming is not what you are talking about when people address it, whichever way they do. The person you are responding to wasn`t talking weather, they were talking warming and that using weather was not good for evaluating warming. Why did you respond to the opposite of their post? Do you have problems understanding words?

It's doesn't matter. The next time it snows it will (again) disprove global warming and the same idiots will repeat that talking point again.

We, as a species, are doomed. Perhaps this is why we have not been contacted by extraterrestrials. Perhaps it is the nature of technology to destroy civilizations at some point.

So pass the hookers and blow. Nothing left to lose!

If only humans could do something like cool the air in their homes, or stay out of the rain, or move where land is, or make fire. Ya, we are doomed.

I read an article a few years back that placed 100% blame of huge wildfires on the US Forestry services "only you can prevent wildfires" campaign since the 60's. Since we stopped letting little fires start here and there and managing those, we instead gave huge natural disaster fires due to all the kindling around. Anyone else remember this?

Check out the Peshtigo Fire, which happened the same day as the Great Chicago Fire. Much of the area surrounding the Great Lakes caught fire that October after a very dry spring and summer. There are only so many ways to get that lake water inland.

We didn't really have winter, but just a prolonged autumn and an early spring. And now we're facing a hot, dry summer. This follows on a very mild summer and a brutal last year. The deniers can believe what they want, but I know the climate is getting weird and I know why.

Deniers for Bush in 2012!

Winter in New Jersey was the 14 inches of wet snow we got the week before Halloween. I drained the gas out of my snowblower last weekend, and planted peas in the garden last night.

common sense is an oxymoron: Which data is "shoddy" and what are the political agendas backing it?

How much has the planet warmed according to the data and what is the margin of error on the thermometers used in the entirety of the time they've been using them to collect data? How does guessing the temperature based on tree rings and ice cores count manage to be plotted as accurate temperature anyhow? That's not data - that's guessing.

Yes. I am made of ice. I also have lung disease and need to suck oxygen so when the weather channel says the air is "unhealthy for sensitive groups" I'm the one gasping like a fish on the ground.
I live in a well-insulated house designed to keep heat in. If it's the the 80s, I need to blow in some air or my house becomes an oven. Thus the "using the fans on them."

Gosling: Minarets: Spring? It's stil farking winter.

What winter? We had winter this year?

THIS.

I think we may have had about two weeks total of winter here, and pretty much have been in prime April-May levels of Hoosier Alley Tornado Season since about mid-February. (Hell, had the first tornado warning in mid-January this year.)

Temps lately have been around late May-early June, which actually makes me mildly afeared for what ACTUAL late May-early June is going to be like...probably like usual July-August weather, at that. :P

Which makes me wonder if I should just consider an extended vacation in Ontario in July-August :P

(Ah well, this is what we get for having such an unseasonably MILD summer last year. Dare I say, it was actually COMFORTABLE and there were only a very few days where fireproofed gills were needed to breathe outside.

(...I just hope that if July-August is bad that I don't get some granola-earth-mother-hippie in a hardware store asking me to do a rain dance ;_;)

/yes, THIS ACTUALLY HAPPENED during a bad drought about ten years ago
//crazy-ass hippie told me "Make one up...the trees need it" when I explained that I didn't KNOW any rain dances due to my ancestors not having been "traditional" for about 150-odd years at that point

Low cost of living, easy access to entertainment, shopping and recreation. Fairly tolerant and more progressive than they think they are (certainly more than pretty much anyplace Californicated). Generally a bright crowd, knows how to raise their kids right, doesn't drive like dumbasses, and enough variety to the weather that you won't get sick of it. What's not to like?

I agree with the cost of living, but there's a reason it is so low. I doubt you have nearly the access in entertainment, shopping, and recreation I do. I'm not a far drive from San Francisco, Santa Cruz, Lake Tahoe, or even Vegas. We are also more diverse and better educated out here. The weather also BLOWS, I lived in Dallas, I know. 100 degree summers and snowy winters! I'll stick to mostly sunshine, 80 degree summers and 60 degree winters, waaaay better. I also found Okies to be the opposite of progressive, it is the most conservative state in the US (at least top 3). Finally, y'all drive just as bad as Californians, just in a different way. Be proud of where you are from, but Oklahoma can't compete with California, or Texas, or even Arkansas, haha.

Baloo Uriza: The fact that it's a hostile environment for Californians is a Good Thing.

I'm a native Texan, I don't think Oklahoma is hostile (not sure why you wish for your city to be hostile, sounds Klan-ish), just really shiatty. I do agree that it is bad for places to get a bunch of Californians moving in since they will make prices much higher but no Californian wants to go to OK, believe me. I also know that a whole bunch of Okies would love a chance to visit CA. Come visit sometime, NorCal is beautiful.

TheJoe03: I agree with the cost of living, but there's a reason it is so low. I doubt you have nearly the access in entertainment, shopping, and recreation I do.

So whip out a map. Lots of parks, concert venues, bars, nightclubs, stadiums, you name it.

I'm not a far drive from San Francisco, Santa Cruz, Lake Tahoe, or even Vegas.

I wouldn't consider the first two a plus at all. Tahoe's at least on the decent side of California (the east side). Vegas? Meh. I don't have to leave town to go gamble and drink like a true Farker.

We are also more diverse and better educated out here.

Having the token black and the occasional homosexual doesn't make the place extremely diverse. Seriously go around Tulsa sometime, it's only the biggest city in the part of the continent America's been throwing all it's unwanted races for the last 150 years.

The weather also BLOWS, I lived in Dallas, I know. 100 degree summers and snowy winters!

It's called having seasons. The shiattiest weather is reserved for the six weeks of peak summer and the six weeks of peak winter. Spring can't make it's mind up one way or another, but fall? Basically 120 days of the most perfect weather you can imagine in a row.

I'll stick to mostly sunshine, 80 degree summers and 60 degree winters, waaaay better.

A complete lack of weather and seasons makes for a shiatty, confused climate or sense of passage of time.

I also found Okies to be the opposite of progressive, it is the most conservative state in the US (at least top 3).

The top three would be 1. California (birthplace of the neoconservative DERP that is the Republican party these days, and it's doing a good job wrecking Arizona, Colorado, Washington and Oregon just from the tourists that forget how to go home), 2. Utah (mormons) and 3. Texas (seriously, that place seems to just soak up everything the post-Reagan republican party does for some reason). The rest of the south juts can't compete, they're just louder about it.

Finally, y'all drive just as bad as Californians, just in a different way.

You'd have to be drunk, unlicensed or never driven a car before (pick at least two) to drive as bad as Californians.

Be proud of where you are from, but Oklahoma can't compete with California, or Texas, or even Arkansas, haha.

Arkansas? It's just Oregon minus the ocean, Californians and plus weather. Pretty, sure, but meh. Nobody should even want to strive to be California or Texas. See above.

I'm a native Texan, I don't think Oklahoma is hostile (not sure why you wish for your city to be hostile, sounds Klan-ish),

I mean that in the sense that the place isn't going to change to suit them, and given that Californians have an inability to assimilate to the local culture and expect everyone to accomodate them instead of going with the local flow, they would be very unhappy in Green Country.

I do agree that it is bad for places to get a bunch of Californians moving

The only place that it would be good for them to go is Hell. Preferably on a flight heavily delayed, stuck on the tarmac for hours before takeoff, and again waiting to get pushed back to the gate on landing.

I also know that a whole bunch of Okies would love a chance to visit CA. Come visit sometime, NorCal is beautiful.

You haven't been exposed to California long enough to realize the correct direction of the divide, I see. Western California blows. Eastern California is nice and actually has some reasonable people. Still can't drive for crap, though.

2012-03-16 05:52:27 PM
Tulsa more diverse than the Bay Area? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! You realize the Bay Area has large white, black, Latino, east Asian, south Asian, west Asian, and Pac Islander populations, right? Occasional homosexual? So Tulsa has more gay people than the Bay now? What??? You can't be that ignorant of the world, can you? Probably.

I also will completely ignore the fact that you are saying Oklahoma has better weather than California, that is idiotic. It has more defined seasons, sure, but winter and summer blow.

Also, calling California the MOST conservative state in the union might be the strangest thing I have ever heard. Have you been around this country at all? I honestly am starting to think you are trolling at this point. I have never heard that claimed by anyone. Also, Oklahoma is for sure more conservative than a place like Texas (a very conservative place), I think elections are proof of that.

Finally, what's your deal, did a Californian kill your mom and rape your dad or something? Take it easy dude, hate gets you no where. You also seem to have tricked yourself into thinking that your state actually shares your liberal politics, which it doesn't in any way.

It's more than just guessing. Wikipedia has a good overview of paleoclimatology here (new window). The ice core temperature data, for example, are based on the isotopic mix of oxygen atoms from air bubbles trapped in dated ice layers (the ratio changes with temperature, which has been independently verified).

Also, give your fellow Californians some driving directions, there's about 5 million of 'em in a diaspora across the west that got lost on the way back.

Nah dude, you are just a stupid ass Okie, all this shiat you say can be disproven with facts. Yeh Oklahoma is more liberal, diverse, and has better weather than California! Talk about pulling information out of your ass, ya dumb shiat.

You might be the most misinformed and delusional person I've talked to on fark, congrats, I'm tagging you as such now. Gotta love that Okie education.
