1) Demand Bill Maher not appear at Democratic function, even though he wasn't invited and not going

2) Democrats state he is not invited and not attending.

3) Declare "victory"

4) See? Republicans DO care about women!

5) forestall inevitable electoral defeat as the party slips further to the right and the demographics cease to support a white evangelical male political party.

Who cares what this chattel thinks? They should be baking pies instead of flapping their uppity gums out here in Man World.

I would make the same demand on the grounds that Bill Maher is unwatchable.

Are these offended republican women still defending Rush?

I'm surprised they had time in between making sandwiches and popping out their brothers' children.

Has Maher ever given a keynote address at a Democratic event equivalent to CPAC? Has he ever had prominent Democratic politicians apologize to him for offending him by questioning some of his over-the-line comments?

False equivalency is false.

But good on those Alabama ladies. Bless their hearts.

2012-03-15 01:56:26 PM
What's next ladies? Taking down Maher's bust from the Oval Office?

Ah, found it.

It was on Freep: Link (new window)

Huh. The pic is hosted on NationalReview.com.

LOL

Doesn't this prove the false equivalency? If he wasn't going in the first place, perhaps he is not as influential as Rush.

Republican women in Alabama...

Bless their hearts.

When will Bill Maher, the Mainstream Media, and the Democrats end their disgusting, vile War on Women?

2012-03-15 02:14:13 PM
Bill Maher is sitting around wondering how he never figured out to get half this much attention on his own...

Seriously, when was he ever considered a major influence on the politics of the left? The comparison is ridiculous, but I am sure Maher is loving the bumps in ratings and revenues.

I think it is supposed to be a liberal conspiracy to delete all evidence that Bill Maher was going to attend.

See, the Democrats knew that it would be embarrassing if he attended so they made planed to delete the evidence that he was ever going to attend while they were advertising the fact that he would attend. Then when Republican women found out, the Libs activated their nefarious plan. The fact that there is no evidence proves that there was a conspiracy to delete the evidence.

Damnit, that's exactly what I was going to respond to.

I'm not sure why they chose him, or think he is some polar opposite of Rush Limbaugh, or think the "left" is somehow going to come running to his "rescue" when in reality, all of us over here are sort of scratching our heads trying to figure out what the ultimate goal of demonizing a guy who , well, nobody cares that much about.

I mean, if he was the only thing on TV, I'm sure I'd choose it over dark silence, but I'm not sure I'd choose it over say, Home Shopping Network. And I am pretty damned left-leaning.

I heard they bumped Limbaugh from the program so that they could speak. BOYCOTT TAMPA, DELEGATES!

They had to pick him, since he's the only liberal comic who's said anything like that. The idea is that if you don't consider Bill Maher offensive for calling Sarah Palin the c-word, then you have absolutely no right to call Rush Limbaugh offensive. The fact that the situations are not even remotely the same thing doesn't matter. The point is that they get to call liberals hypocrites and it makes them feel better about liking that steaming pile of garbage Rush.

Oh, and I do think Bill Maher's a dick for saying that. But there's not even remotely a moral equivalency between that and what Limbaugh did.

2012-03-15 02:48:50 PM
If Bill Maher isn't attending the Democrat event, how can they charge people $100 for "an Evening with Bill Maher." That doesn't make any sense.

You illustrated the problem nicely, though -- you just said "Bill Maher's a dick" -- which actually IS equivalent to what Maher said about Palin. Inappropriate? We can argue that, but comedians (funny or otherwise) (political or otherwise) often rely on those words to get points across. That's why you can't watch stand-up on Comedy Central unless it's late-night and unedited - it starts to sound like you're watching a comedian and R2-D2 having a high-pitched conversation.

Maher is really an attention-seeking idiot, by and large. What, are they going to try to drag Michael Moore out next? They tried to make him the poster boy for the left and by and large, "we" said, "no thanks, we don't really want him, but nice try". So now they claim Maher "speaks" for the left. I'm pretty sure he has never been called, or called himself, "the true voice of liberalism". (If he has, I stand corrected -- I don't really follow him, and neither did anyone until the Republicans got desperate.) Rush, however, IS considered one of the true faces of conservatism -- by conservatives, by himself, and by most of the country.

And I'm not defending Maher, in any particular way, anyway. I've just spent more time out of my life than I ever thought I would discussing him as it is.

2012-03-15 03:24:36 PM
How many people's opinion of Palin changed based on what Maher said?
How many people's opinion of Fluke changed based on what Limbaugh said?

Trick question. No one had an opinion of Fluke until Limbaugh said something.

Also the issue isn't about inappropriate use of individual curse words, as the right seems to think it is.

I like how the dialogue has been moved to comparing Limbaugh vs. Maher. Shouldn't it be Fluke vs. Palin? Or are they both just innocent bystanders in all this?

Things that Sandra Fluke and Sarah Palin have in common:
* They're both women
* They both attended college

Things that Sandra Fluke and Sarah Palin do not have in common:
* Sandra Fluke is a woman that attended a Congressional hearing and gave her opinion as to why birth control is a vital portion of healthcare and why many women need birth control pills regardless if they are even sexually active or not. And for this, Rush Limbaugh attacked her personally for it for days on end and said some truly vile things about her which are completely unsubstantiated.
* Sarah Palin is a former Governor that has said some truly despicable things about liberals and Democrats and Bill Maher said some nasty things about her in kind.

So, let's see. Bill Maher does indeed have a stand-up concert in that venue on that day, but as far as I can tell, it's just one in a long line of appearances for this particular tour. The only place I can find this image:

www.nationalreview.com

Is hosted on rightwing websites, where it is credited as having been provided by "Shana Kluck, communications director for the Alabama Republican Party."

2) The Alabama Democrats webpage says nothing about such an event. In fact, they're having a rather large event on that day somewhere else entirely

img689.imageshack.us

Given the propensity certain wingnuts have for 1) lying and/or 2) Believing the stupidly transparent lies fed to them by their betters, and 3) Actually beleiving stories in the Onion a REAL, I'm leaning towards "probably not real" But I could be wrong.

Also, Sarah Palin ran for Vice President of the United States, is constantly on the news, and is viewed as an influential person in conservative politics and constantly does things to maintain her status as headlining news material.

Sandra Fluke is a private citizen who testified before Congress and was suddenly propelled to headline news material, no doubt unexpectedly as she is not the first private citizen to testify before Congress.

Well, there you go. Looks like they were sponsoring some kind of political gathering/fundraiser before the show.

I wish the foot stampers the best of luck in getting it cancelled. Maybe at the press conference they can hold their breath until the Democrats give in

Interesting, except near as I can tell this

is the Alabama democratic party's website. Most if the links on that page go nowhere, which seems like a terrible way to run your state's party's website.

I'm sure Bill Maher is happy to be the whipping boy for the misguided right. His core audience isn't turning him off because the republicans hate him any more than Rush is losing listeners because the left hates him. In fact, I would bet Maher would happily go away if it meant Limbaugh would disappear too
