One would think he would've noticed he was in the wrong place, what with all the Muslims, Commie flags, gay sex and abortions going on!

In a sane political environment, savvy Republicans would use the Violence Against Women Act renewal and meager expansion as an easy win to rebuild their sensible pro-women-on-most-issues bona fides going into November. Unfortunately, the modern Republican Party is collectively insane.

So, I guess you have some sympathy for the candidate now?

Oh damn, they called him a RINO.

I see what you did there.

In a sane political environment he could use this to his advantage, "See, I'm willing to talk to Democrats." but with the way things are now I'm sure his opponents are already running attack ads about this.

Zany hijinks, indeed.

A republican screwed up, was good-natured about it, and yet no one died, was fired, was falsely imprisoned, or was disenfranchised.

You'll be telling your grandchildren about this moment.

This would never happen if a Democrat showed up at a Republican convention. Democrats offend Republicans by just existing.

Big props to him for not pursuing a 2nd Amendment solution to cover up his goof, but he loses big points for not being able to recognize his own party faithful.

/Sure are a lot of new faces here this year, that's great!

Considering how close the Dems and Reps are on most issues, it's not surprising that it took a while for them to realize the mixup. They probably only realized the mistake when specific people started getting criticized.

Gay sex in a public area signals Republican. Gay marriages would signal Democrats.

That, my fellow Farkers, is how you apply the kiss of death to a Republican.

Yep, true.

Democrats don't even have to be elected to derail GOP politicians.

2012-03-15 01:46:42 PM
Actually, I would like to see more Republicans at Democratic conventions and vice versa. I think that's how dialogues happen instead of rhetoric.

I mean, yea it is a funny mix-up, but if as TFA says this guy didn't offend anybody in spite of speaking to what he thought was a bunch of Republicans, maybe we can include more cross-party speakers at various conventions and get something real going, instead of the clusterf*ck of a dog-and-pony show we have going on now with politics.

2012-03-15 01:47:06 PM
At least this was an accident.

Do I have a fun story about a Republican purposely switching to Democrat to run in the primary because the current office holder used his daddy's words against him in 2010.

//Bonus points in that the father and son have the same campaign manager.

I don't mind them gong full retard. I do mind that a significant percentage of the electorate can't tell.

He should have known it was a Democratic convention since it wasn't all white people there.

Actually, Republicans are offended that Democrats are allowed to exist. So vote for small government.

This smells like bullshiat. If he showed up in the wrong place, there should have been several different opportunities for people to figure out he was in the wrong place. I mean, did no one introduce him? Did he just bum rush the mic and start making his speech?

Yeah, but it's all done with Iowa Nice. Unless you're Steve King or Bob VanderPlaats, its all done with Iowa Nice. Its even done to Chinese diplomats (new window). Even their happily married gay couples are all about getting out the good china, pouring a glass of lemonade and showing you their corn crops.

Wow. That article was pretty damn accurate (from what little I know), and very enthusiastic. Opinion of Iowa shifting...

Not when you're running for a local office in the 2nd Congressional District. Its a predominantly Democratic district to begin with. And they're pretty big on Iowa Nice.

It's bad enough that he actually talked to democrats. The fact they liked him is reason enough to run him out of the party.

Sounds like everyone was very reasonable about it, the man took it in good humor, and no one was offended.

I think I'm going to pass out now.

What exactly is the state of our political discourse when someone of an opposing ideology impresses you just because he didn't offend you?

Good thing he didn't use the secret Republican speech about going into people's houses at night and wrecking up the place.

The Quad Cities Times writes an article about speaking engagement mixup? Unpossible. They haven't figured out how to count there yet.

Wiki:

"The Quad Cities is a group of five cities straddling the Mississippi River on the Iowa-Illinois boundary."

Yeah, it SOUNDS nice, but I fear it would end up with the speaker unable to get a word in edgewise. This time, it sounds like the Dems were pretty polite, but I can't see these worked up Repubs sitting still for so long, and if it were a week with a MAJOR new Right wing fark-up, the Dems would boo the guy off the stage, too.

Of course, it could be that everyone was quiet because they were all trying to figure out if they were the only ones hearing that voice. I bet some were so confused that they thought they were having auditory hallucinations...
