entirely non-toxic dye

Yeah, that's great, but is no one disturbed that water flow from a F*CKING HOSPITAL has been spilling into a creek for god knows how long?

Whoops. Toxic or no, I don't imagine they had fluorescent dye or cooling tower water for that matter included in their stormwater or NPDES permit. But, it is Texas, so there will probably be no fine.

fluorescent green dye was being used to test for plumbing leaks in the hospital's cooling tower No. 3.

Wait... hospitals have cooling towers?

For the A/C, I imagine. Plus the morgue and all the refrigerators for perishable items.

Medical City confirmed to investigators that a fluorescent green dye was being used to test for plumbing leaks in the hospital's cooling tower No. 3.

In other news... Cooling Tower No. 3 is leaking.

Blackbirds flew in and to the cooling towers

They will never hold a candle to Chicago where the Chicago river goes green every year on St Pattys day.

They say it's completely nontoxic tracer dye, so I'm sure it'll be alright.

Actually, the stuff is pretty safe. I've worked with it and aside from the fact that it's green and fluorescent, the worst thing that happens is someone who matches your description robs a bank, as you've got fluorescent dye all over you.

First responders dammed the ditch where the tainted water was flowing from in an effort to keep more of it from reaching the creek, but once its exact nature was known, the dam was cleared and the green fluid was permitted to flow into the waterway.

That's some fine writing there, Lou.

Cooling towers generally don't have anything you wouldn't want flowing into a creek in them, but I still doubt the TCEQ is going to be thrilled.

you can get the dye in capsule form from most plumbing suppliers. it only takes a few to dye a backyard pool

2012-03-15 11:18:36 AM
Workers used about a quarter of a gallon of the... dye.
Or as professional writers call it, a "Quart."

They certainly do take their B vitamins in Dallas, don't they.

/wonder if there is a Budweiser brewery conveniently located downstream.
