I know that's a popular stupid lefty fantasy, but you do realized that it's essentially never happened, right? I mean, outside of Narnia or wherever people of your weirdly delusional political sect lives.

//"Essentially" because the cops accidentally hit bystanders all the time. Can't find a single report of a civilian carrying concealed doing it, though, probably because 90% of the training for the license is an explanation for how you're 100% liable for anything you hit downfield of your target.

You can get arrested in Texas for imprinting while carrying concealed.

Now tell me how that DOESN'T suck.

Your kid getting hold of your gun and shooting himself with it does make you an irresponsible asshole, but it's in no way what the dude was talking about. He was claiming that bystanders are routinely injured by CCP holders in shootouts with criminal assailants, assumably because he's too stupid to realize that if you're in handgun range, you can talk to your target.

Actually keeping your gun in your car is explicitly legal in Texas even if you're unlicensed. It becomes illegal if you remove it from the car either without a license to carry or in an exclusion zone (a courthouse is one).

So, gun in your passenger seat = dumb, but legal. Taking the gun out into the parking lot of a courthouse/hospital/school = no longer legal.

//Proper handling is to have the gun secured and somewhere people outside the car can't see it, but it's not a legal requirement.

Carrying a cell-phone is legal as well, but I can no longer take it into the courthouse; or a Kindle for that matter. There's nothing to stop them from prohibiting anything otherwise-legal from court property. Just wait and see.

Actually, in Texas you could walk down main street with that same loaded assault rifle slung over your shoulder and it is completely legal. No requirement whatsoever to be on your own property. As long as you don't conceal or attempt to conceal a long gun you can go just about anywhere you want with it, with some exceptions..

Don't tell him, but the thing about printing is wrong too. You have to intentionally fail to conceal your firearm in Texas to be in violation.

... So I guess, if you were wearing a spandex shirt over your gun you might get busted for printing... Otherwise you are pretty safe as long as you make some effort to conceal the gun.

Quick searched turned up one Mr. Edward Bell, LTC holder of Detroit, who accidentally shot and killed one Geraldine Jackson with a stray bullet as she was cooking dinner while Mr. Bell was shooting at fleeing men who had just robbed him.

My personal feeling is that it's a statistical blip, but it's a skosh more than "never".

Everyone should be required to carry cap and ball revolvers. Six shots and then everyone gets 30 minutes to think about it and calm down while reloading.
