Oh for crissake! Some people need to get hobbies that don't involve interfering in the lives of others.

I'm sure these same people vote Republican in claim of support of small government.

Freedom people. It's a good thing.

And yes, I agree with AbbeySomeone. These people really need to find something real in their lives to worry about.

Women should really start incorporating themselves as businesses so the GOP will leave them alone.

At this point, you have to figure that the Far Right has realized that it will lose this go at the Presidency, so they're just flinging as much crap as possible, and dredging up every fool issue that they've been sitting on, and making not a Hail Mary, but just throwing the damn ball out of frustration and hopes that someone will see this exercise as "brave and principled" as opposed to a hissy fit.

While the decision may seem archaic and insignificant by modern sexual standards, so are we.

Today, the Federal government is forcing us to share the cost, for said contraception and some states are giving marital status to homosexual relationships.

As opposed to sharing the cost of children born out of wedlock, children born to poor and spiraling families, and how dare the gheys want to not just shack up?

This particular sentence is the 11th pound of crazy in the 5lb bag...

They believe that if you take away contraception people will just stop having sex. They see allowing unmarried people to have access to contraception as taking away a "privilege" they enjoy as married people.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;

That says you can exercise your religion as you see fit. That does not mean that you can write the laws for the rest of us. You do not have the right to define marriage for anyone but yourself. You do not have the right to keep other people from using condoms because you don't agree with their lifestyle. You do not have the right to tell two men they can't get married because you think the buttsecks is icky. You do not have the right to tell people that their personally purchased health insurance cannot cover birth control pills.

Basically, your religious views don't mean a damn thing past the front doors of your church or the front door of your house, and they certainly don't extend across town and into someone else's bedroom.

I had sex with one once. To be fair, I didn't know at the time...I only found out after, when he insisted we kneel and pray and beg forgiveness. I asked him if this was a sort of kink, and he started crying. It was actually rather terrible. It's hard not to feel a little sorry for all of them.

I dunno. It seems you knew him well enough to know where that kind of self-loathing was coming from, and what he'd do with it. But if it were me, I'd be too worried some sort of projection of hatred wouldn't take place and he'd look for a something to lash out at.. like me.

I've seen that happen before, by the way.

You know what is going to happen?

There is going to be a huge schism in the GOP and the underlying religious groups.

The fallout will be a moderate group that believes and votes for women's rights and progressive issues and a heavily conservative group that is all-out 'because the bible tells me so'.

tl;dr, they have gone too far and are going to fragment.

They couldn't really do that and be competitive with the Democrat party. The powers-that-be within the Republican party will do everything they can to make sure there isn't an absolute split within their party. Especially for these reasons. Not saying it wont' happen, just doubtful.

Please explain to me...someone...anyone...why religion should have ANY say in this whatsoever.

Does religion have a say in what medication you take for high blood pressure? Does it have a say in whether you should get out of the basement and get more exercise? No, of course not. So why should it have a say in this particular health activity?

Because "that's how it's always been?" C'mon, give me a REAL justification, please.

I really wish I thought you were kidding.

I pity these people, because they've let their faith destroy their personalities. You can certainly be religious and not be a psychotic ass or self-hating compulsive because of it.

It's interesting that the proxies for the GOP are still trying to throw the "this is a religious freedom issue" out there. It's been a couple weeks and the general electorate really isn't buying it, as far as the poll numbers are showing.

I'd think they were just throwing it out for the base in the primaries, but the base voters for the GOP don't watch "MSM" that isn't FNC.

On March 22nd, 1972, the Supreme Court undermined the boundaries and benefits of marriage. In the decision Eisenstadt v. Baird, the Court struck down a Massachusetts law prohibiting the distribution of contraceptives to unmarried people, and implicitly sanctioned unmarried non-procreative sexual intimacy.

Why did the Supreme Court have to ruin everything? It's implicitly sanctioning things! SANCTIONING! Humanity finally realized they could have sex without getting married first.

3/22/1972. NEVAR FORGET!

You'd think, but that same story has been bandied about for the last three-four election cycles. Moreover, the Republican party from its very outset was a merger of Christian social activists (anti-slavery folks) and economic interests (industrialists & robber barons).

The fiscal conservatives need the social conservative voters, while the social conservatives need the fiscal conservatives' money.

It's like a self sustaining ecosystem.

To some extent, I'd agree with you.

In this case, however, it's like someone else came in and removed an apex predator (strong establishment, moderate conservative leadership), so the herbivores (religious right / tea party / social conservatives) have been reproducing and ruining the ecosystem (Republican party).

And that's no good for anyone.

Yeah, I can see that. There used to be more balance in the system. I'm not sure what happened to tip the balance, but it sure as hell happened after 1991.

Indeed, religion has some pretty clear things to say about loving your neighbour and leaving the judging to God.
