Strained groin, a fine, his Bentley rear ended by a Saturn. Not a good day for D Rose yesterday.

2012-03-14 11:21:40 AM
And the car wreck was while he was on the way to the doctor's office.

Yeah, not the best day for D-Ro.

2012-03-14 11:29:25 AM
Meanwhile he was getting BS calls throughout the game.

2012-03-14 11:29:52 AM
Complains about foul calls when he shot 9 free throws? The only guy in the NBA getting more than 9 FTA per game is Dwight and it's because everyone knows he'll miss half of them.

2012-03-14 11:30:11 AM
I'm glad that he outs himself as a superstar, and trys to give support to all those other superstars out there who haven't come to grips with their superstar-ism.

I gotta be the only superstar on Fark that's going through what I'm going through right now.

I'm a huge fan of D.Rose but his attack style of offense always involves contact of some sort. Tough to call here ( no pun intended) Come playoff time he'll get more calls.

2012-03-14 11:40:33 AM
Wow, I didn't realize Derrick Rose was such a douchebag. Calling yourself a superstar? C'mon,

Anyway, when your offensive game includes contorting your body on every shot you take in hopes to draw a phantom foul, I feel no pity for you not getting calls.

2012-03-14 11:42:51 AM
Refs can't call opponents for fouls literally every single possession. If they did, no one would ever watch the game. So every once in a while, you have to try something OTHER than "creating contact" as an offensive strategy.

/hoping the Magic did enough near the deadline to make them keep Howard and waste another season

IDK, I'm pretty sure you can call DRose a superstar at this point. At least in Illinois he is :)

It does feel like when they play teams like the Heat (excited for tonight!) Lebron gets some ticky-tack calls that Rose doesn't, but I'm biased to the Bulls so it doesn't really bother me.

Yikes, what an unpleasant road trip for the Heat - Orlando, Chicago, and Philly in the span of four days.

2012-03-14 12:32:26 PM
Isn't this the first time he's ever complained about officials, let alone getting fined for it? First controversial move after 4 years in the pros? Congratulations, now you've reached the big time.

The first year or two he avoided contact and didn't ask for calls because--at least as the media talking point went--that's how he learned to play basketball. Then his coaches encouraged him to get contact and look for fouls so he did that and now appears to be turning it up to eleven. He'll even out. D-Rose going full Rasheed Wallace would just look weird.

He's 13th in the league in FTA per game...behind guys like Rodney Stuckey and John Wall. I don't think this was necessarily about the Knicks game in particular but has been building for a while.

And to pile on, YOU LIE!

But to paraphrase another quote, if he got all the calls, each game would last 4 hours. Brutal. Sounds like someone was having a bad day. Though at my job, if I sound off I don't get fined $25,000.

Does going "full" 'Sheed entail simply complaining about refs ad nauseam, or also include "never dominating a game despite his polished skill set and frustratingly shrinking into a 'role player' during critical moments"?

The NBA should make gift calls for their superstars at the expense of all the other players, in fairness to the purity of the game.

Wall is a pretty terrible shooter but he's great at getting to the rim. Look at Rose's shot chart vs. Wall's. Rose scores a lot more but it's mostly long 2s and 3s and he's not going to draw many fouls on those.

2012-03-14 01:05:29 PM
Well, you're not REALLY a superstar if you're not working the refs. And the dude does seemingly get slapped in the head on the regular going to the basket to a lack of whistles, but I'm a Bulls fan, so. Here's your grain of salt.

I dunno, Derrick Rose in the lane is a slippery motherfarker. It's not like Dwight Howard or Shaq who seem to shrug off contact. With Rose it's almost as if people just slip off him. I think that's why he has a hard time getting calls.

Wall and Stuckey take all of their shots in the lane because they have the range of Shaq.

As someone said in D'Antoni's defense, he had the team he wanted then the players were broken up and traded away.

But I don't think D'Antoni can ever win a championship. If your team can't get offensive or defensive rebounds or block shots, then it doesn't matter how fast you score your points. The other team just slows the game down and keeps getting offensive rebounds until they score. Then they block your shot or get your rebound and start all over again.

He's missed 4 playoffs and lost in two first rounds.

I watched that game. He probably should have had twice as many free throw attempts as he got. FWIW I'm a Pacers fan, so it's not like I want Rose to be more effective than he already is.

Rose has 195 shots "at the rim" this year to Wall's 227. But Derrick has played in 34 games compared to 41 for Wall. That means Derrick gets to the rim 5.735 times per game and Wall only goes to the rim 5.537 times per game.

To be so talented and so stupid at the same time. I LOVE THIS GAME!

2012-03-14 03:19:44 PM
Rose shot the ball 29 times, 15 of those were in the paint. He had only 5 fouls called on him.

I think his frustration was less about not getting calls, but the discrepancy of the calls given that Taj, Carlos, and Asik each had 3 fouls called against them in just the first half. It's one thing if the refs have swallowed their whistles for both teams, its another when they call everything against the Bulls but only punish the Knicks when Rose gets knocked to the ground hard and hurts himself. It was much fairer in the second half, but that first half was brutal as far as reffing was concerned.

Both coaches seemed to be pissed at the refs that game. I guess that makes it fair in an odd way. Still, there have been better-called games for both sides.

So he takes one more shot in the paint every 5 games than Wall, and Wall gets an extra free throw every 10 games. That's really close.

Or maybe the refs hate Obama so they take it out on Rose.

Rose - 6.3 FTA/game
Wall - 6.6 FTA/game - 1 extra free throw per 3 games. I know it's not a huge deal. But watching Rose every game I can tell you he doesn't get as many calls as he should. And he rarely ever complains about that stuff so you know he's frustrated and has a legit point when he does.
