Eagles release C Jamaal Jackson, clear another $1.67 (rounded).

Unrelated/related sports news, Jimmy Rollins on Ryan Howard's achilles injury/heel infection: "I don't know what to think, honestly," Rollins says. "If you ask me, with this infection, I don't know if he's going to play this year, because after all the work that he's done, now he's got to hit the reset button." (new window)

Jackson was the last Eagle on the 2004 Super Bowl team. DT Mike Patterson (1st round, 2005) now the longest-tenured Eagles player. Roster from Super Bowl 38 completely gone from current roster.

robsul82: Chargers sign linebacker Jarrett Johnson to a 4-year deal, per Caplan.

I'm sure you've mentioned Carl Nicks and the Bucs. That's got to sting. Drew's gonna want more money.

Also, which Farker was that?

Yep, that stings like a motherfarker. An expected sting, but a Hell of a sting nonetheless. Apparently we're "circling" Ben Grubbs to replace Nicks and David Hawthorne right now.

Also, big news -

@caplannfl
And, for the record, Dan Orlovsky has not signed with Bucs. They are, however, talking to him.

I actually kind of like that the steelers very rarely participate in the big free agent signings. But I would have been pretty pleased if they'd gone out and gotten a guy like Nicks. Roethlisberger is probably still punch drunk from the end of the season last year.

D'Antoni has quit as Knicks head coach. Brinks truck seen backing up to the Zen Master's mansion.

When you do a good job of drafting and reward those players with large contracts, you don't need to make the big splash in free agency.

Yeah, they do a pretty good job of that I must admit. We'll see if they can hang onto wallace. I want to keep him for sure, but after seeing Plaxico and Holmes (and even Randle El) take off in recent years while they quietly reloaded with relative unknowns and stayed at a high level I'm not TOO worried about it. He's a unique guy but they can survive his loss. If they can improve the offensive line that is. Enough with the band-aids already.. They need some USDA prime beef.

Straight from the desk of incarceratedbob, lol...

@jklorlando33 Yes Grubbs looks like a done deal in New Orleans. (Contract is being written up as i type) still some minor issues to get done

Hope this isn't one of his farkups, heh.

Saints have to be somewhat anxious to sign a competent guard at this point. Can't imagine them losing Grubbs to another team this early in the negotiation process.

The Cowboys are close to a deal with Brandon Carr. Stay tuned...Carr's contract is expected to be bigger than the five-year, $50 million deal that Cortland Finnegan signed with the Rams.

You mean the countless hours the experts on the NFL Network rambled about "sign Reggie Wayne and you entice Peyton Manning to come to your city" were for nothing?!?!?!

Seriously. I had the "Free Agent Frenzy" on yesterday from noon to 5pm, they kept coming back to Peyton and talking about him, or talking about how it will affect Tim Tebow if Peyton's pinky toe gets a pimple, etc etc etc.

The farked up part about it all, everyknow knows Peyton wasn't going to sign yesterday, or today, or even this week. Yet they continually talked about it and spent a minute or too on actual signings when they happened.

So glad they went with Carr instead of Finnegan. I can't stand that douche.

So very much THIS. We already know Roethlisberger's some kind of a cyborg or something, we don't need any more proof. :P

/seriously though, we can haz O-line?
//please?

I liked this from the Colts blog Stampede Blue:

Unlike Bill Polian, who despised free agency almost as much as he hated the fans of the team he worked for, new G.M. Ryan Grigson actually (gasp!) likes signing free agents!

Colts signed Winston Justice for the O-line, got a new DT Cory Redding, they let Dan Orlovsky go to the Bucs. Any opinions on Justice and Redding?

IF the guys they have can stay healthy, they are almost mediocre.. They really need to bring in a FA to school the guys that are healthy, AND bring in some young talent. Since Grimm left, the line has gotten horrible as a whole.

We swapped 6th round picks with the Eagles for Justice. He wasn't an FA signing. It looks like a mixed bag on him. He's looked solid at point, but Mathis and Dawson (worthless camp body) made him look like dog ass when we played them two years ago. I'm assuming he'll compete for RT and either get cut or shunted into RG if he doesn't pan out. Eagles are on the hook for all his bonus money, so we don't lose anything by cutting him.

Cory Redding is a legitimately good 3-4 DE that we'll need to transition from our Tampa-2 4-3 to a hybrid 4-3/3-4 to our eventual 3-4 (assumption here). Mathis and Pagano have already gone on record as saying they plan on using Freeney has a 3-4 rusher (olb) or a 4-3 DE depending on the look, so they won't be competing for playing time.

I'm pretty happy with the signings and activity so far, especially the Wayne signing. Luck will need weapons after all. His moves have been positive so far, but I want to see what he does with the draft and the rest of FA.

Justice plays well when he's healthy (duh) but it's been an issue. It was two-fold for Philly, both to clear cap space and because Justice has trouble in run-blocking schemes playing RT, which is where Shady is typically directed by his left-handed QB in Vick.

Big if, though. I loves me some Pouncey, but that ankle worries me a little. Seems like just about EVERYONE else got injured last season as well - did we ever have the same lineup for more than two weeks in a row? :-/ I think, from what I saw of Gilbert last year, that he has potential and will probably be OK, but like you said, more young talent + solid veteran FA(s) would be amazing.

/knows it probably won't happen
//but a girl can dream, right? :P
